I'm still a child as well, and I do get allowances. Do you get or do you give allowances?

My children do chorus for their allowance. I have a list of chorus that need to be done and they do them, if they complain then they get money deducted and they still have to do them. I don't give them much for an allowance because I have a large family and I feel that children should have to do stuff around the house without being told.

I never got an allowance as such when I was a child. I had to do chores or extra tasks in order to earn money, like polishing my dad´s shoes, cleaning the pantry, etc.
Now that I am a mom, I think I will probably give my children a small allowance, but require them to do extra chores if they want more money.

Yes I do get allowances. That is the best part of the month, when you get some money to spend or save for the next month.

In England we call it spending money and I always used to get some myself as a child and I always gave my children spending money. It is important for children to have this bit of independance with money.

Yes I do. I give them an allowance (though it isn't a big one). I think it gives them a sense of freedom and teaches them to be responsible and frugal. They really would like to spend it all, but we make them save some of it. They have their own savings accounts and all that too. It does help when they say that they "WANT" something. I ask them if they have the money to buy it. If so they get it if not they don't. If they "NEED" something than we buy it. Clothes, food, shoes, socks, etc.
