What is your opinion about getting dowry in marriage?

According to me its like a begging... That is, your parents sell you for the name sake of marriage... And just think about the girls, they are also equally educated and equally earning ... So gentlemans i hope the change in the future... Just tell your suggession how to handle...

I have never completely understood this dowry concept. In Canada we have no such thing. Boy loves girl. Girl loves boy. You get married. Both families normally try and help out with wedding expenses. There are traditionally wedding gifts, but no dowry.
