Pitbulls VS Pitbull Mixes... Are Both Equally Stereotyped?

Well we all know how much purebread pitbulls are stereotyped because of what their owners make them into, but are pitbull mixes just as badly stereotyped? My boyfriend and I have a lab/pitbull mix, of course labs are known to people as being nice dogs but pitbulls are rarely seen that way. When people ask what kind he is, we will often say he's a lab mix and they seem all interested and impressed. When they ask when he's mixed with they become quiet and uncomfortable.
Have you seen many pitbull mixes? What were they mixed with? Did they look more like a pitbull or another breed? Do you have a preference between pitbulls and pitbull mixes? If so, which?

I think they are both stereotyped. We have a 1 year old pit mix, mixed with american bulldog. My daughter has raised her from a newborn and "Pearl" is an absolute sweetheart. She is adorable, funny, feisty, and playful. There are many sides and expressions to her, so much so, she amazes us all the time. Her favorite thing is to chew, and I mean chew everything she can reach, so we keep alot of bones and chewtoys laying around.
Our Pearl has recently been stereotyped as a bad breed from our landlord, and we were asked to either get rid of the dog or move. Our decision: We are moving...next week, in fact, all of us, including Pearl.
So you decide...this is her photo...isn't she adorable? (BIG SMILE)

Yes, she is adorable. I think that it is a shame that pitbulls are stereotyped. People can be so narrow minded. If the puppy is raised as yours was than it is going to turn out to be a sweetheart of a dog. The ones that are dangerous is the ones that when you get them and they are half grown or adult dog and you don't know the background history of the dog that I would be very careful. It it was treated mean you have a dog on your hands that can be potentially dangeros.
But guess what so can other breeds of dogs. Just because you have a certain breed of dog that is not what makes a dog mean. It is the treatment of their master that either makes them good or bad.

I had a pitbull/lab mix for about fourteen years, she was the biggest baby, i do wish that they did not get the bad wrap on the breed because if raised right they are great.

I have never had a pit bull. My son-in-law has an american bulldog which looks very like a pit bull and everyone is afraid of him. He is a sweet but protective dog and great with children. I am a firm believer that any dog is a result of how it is trained.

Absolutely! Whenever anyone hears the word Pitbull they get all nervous and start talking about how they are such bad dogs. I have had Pitbulls my entire life. I've even bread them. They are wonderful dogs, specially with children. Pitbull mixes are also wonderful. It all depends on the dog, the breeding (that they're not inbread), and the guardians. I see a lot of dogs at the shelter and the paper that are called Lab mixes, which are clearly lab/pit mixes. I think even the adoption centers are afraid of labeling them pit mixes because they know how people react. It's very sad.

I would never own a pitbull, they can be very unpredictable...I love labs ,they are gentle and really sweet dogs....Pitbulls has a bad name because they have done a lot of damage and even killed before, and it is in the genes...Your dog might be a wonderful dog,and maybe some pitbulls are good, but i would never trust a full blooded pitbull,no more than i would trust a chow, they are also unpredictable....I agree some pitbulls have been treated to be bad,but a pitbull can turn bad because they are tempremental and unpredictable and you never know what they might do...They cannot help their behavior anymore than you can change your nationality.....They were bred to fight, and even if you are gentel with them their instinks could kick in and they can be dangerous....Hopefully your do has enough lab in him that he will remain a good dog...If given a choice i would prefer not to have a mix or full blooded pitbull,if I was forced to have either, than I would pick the mix and hope for the best....

In general I prefer mixed breed dogs over purbreds simply because they are supposed to have less genetic health problems, but pitbull are a really good breed for that, they really have not genetic health flaws, but my baby-girl is a mix so I should say that is what I prefere. She is pitull and either mastiff or boxer. She looks purebred, people alwys asl me if she is, but she isn't. I always say that my dog is pitbull mix, because her mother was a pitbull and I didn't see her father so I can't be sure what she is mixed with. People who have a problem with her being a pitbull p!ss me off but I don't want her to have to pretend she is something other than what she is and I am not ashamed of what she is, she is wonderful, so I don't bother lieing about it. If someone won't some around because of the breed of my dog then I don't think I want them around anyway.
