I was at hospital today, hospital of all places! When they asked my age, and if I use any medication, I got the wierdest stares because I'm 18 and suffer from depression. I mean isn't it a common sight for a teenager to have depression? Then again not all teens have Heredatary, manic, clinical depresion and insomnia? or is their others out there that have the same problem? I just think it's time people should stop treating us like we are freaks of nature, we're just normal people! Yes our brains don't function to good but we're just like everyone else!!!!!

because alote of people see depression as a mood.
they probably tell themself..he is 18..young, healthy he has all of his life to live and enjoy..it is probably a mood situation and it will pass.
they do not know that depression illness can be at any age.
they have a hard time coping with the fact that you are so young and you have this illness.
they do not understand that is a clinical diagnosis and may be different from the everyday meaning of "being depressed." Many people identify the feeling of being depressed as "feeling sad for no reason", or "having no motivation to do anything." people that are suffering from depression usually feel sad and tired, unmotivated, and apathetic. they do not understand that depression can be be more serious than normal depressed feelings. that is what leads them to a negative thinking and an unbelieve.

Yes you are right, I agree people should not judge anyone. There are a lot of people young and old with depression, we live in a very dangerous world right now, many people are hungy and have no money for food, there are people who are sick and have no medical coverage and what about the homeless. There are so many things that cause depression and there are people out there who don't understand why there is depression. Just because some is depressed does not mean that person is crazy or a freak of nature. You know there are many people who get depressed but they hide it from everyone.

I suffered from depression as a teenager and did experience a surprised reaction from some people when I mentioned it as they thought it only effected older people. A lot of people still think it's an emotional condition and not a medical one and asked me what I was depressed about it's hard to explain that you don't have to be depressed "about" anything sometimes it just happens. A lot of people are ignorant about the condition you'll encounter it a lot in your life, but more and more people are enlightened about now so it's not all bad.
