Why, why, why???????????????????

Why is it that the combination of men, football and alchohol usually result in aggression and violence! To give you an example on Sunday it was the old firm game here in Scotland(celtic v rangers) I know of one pub that closed in the afternoon cos there was fighting, another that was almost closed and there were many scuffles up and down the country! The pub I work in very rarely has trouble of this kind; on Sunday it was very busy all day until evening. There was no trouble all day at about 10 when out of nowhere 2 guys - who are actually friends - and who are usually very mild mannered and easy going started throwing punches at each other! I got in between them and some other customers helped too. One of the mens wife dragged him out, shouting at him the whole time (I wouldn't like to be hime in the morning!) and things calmed down! My question is why does the recipe for disaster - the men, football and alchohol thing - almost always work? why do men do this to themselves? When I drink I like to have fun not fights! What are your thoughts on this?

I think it's a bad combination , and also a macho thing , drink just does this to some people , I also think that a lot of it is about religion , I don't drink because of what I have seen it do to people ,We used to live beside a public house My dad worked in pubs too and he used to see a lot of what you see pal , xx

I know weemam that I don't see the worst of things I just hate to see normally nice, laid back people getting themselves into fights - such a waste of time! Thanks weemam! hugs

i think its totally out of order. men drinking and football always start a fight somewhere. some men just cant control themselves after a few drinks watching the match. the way i look at it its only a game so why do people get so worked up about it? some people just cant control their anger!!

i definitelly not agree, it all the depends on themselves, we can't blame something outside ourselves for stupid things we have done.

This is something I have never quite understood. Why perfectly ordinary respectable blokes, turn into drunken hooligans when an inflated bladder is chased around my 22 other blokes. It seems to be only when football is involved that things get really out of hand, can you imagine this happening at a swimming gala??? LOL

These people who get drunk and get into trouble should be locked up in cages where they can continue to brawl. I think that's really more interesting then watching football games.

Nothing has changed in the almost 30 years since I left Glasgow. It's the same old Catholics against the Protestants. In the US it's racial and in Scotland it's religious when I went to school Catholics had their own schools and protestants and Jews went to another.

Whiteheather I wouldn't go as far as to say nothing has changed because it has - 30 years ago the fans probably would have been in different pubs depending on what team they supported! I actually like Celtic ( although am a Stirling Albion supporter through and through!) and I am not a catholic. My family is very mixed - probably about half protestant and half catholic and this has never caused any problems! Even with the football most of the guys don't get too uptight til drink is added to the equation! There are still catholic schools but they do accept people from all backgrounds who are not catholic! Thanks for your opinion though Whiteheather! x

It is called ignorance and pride that's why. A majority of people get hyped for their favorite team and some do take it personally. Most of those type of people are idiots and have no logic when they do those type of things.
