Your pet can be covered for unexpected accidents and illnesses. They even offer coverage for routine wellness care, such as annual checkups, vaccines, dental cleaning, and other preventive treatment. Do you have pet health insurance for your pets? What are your thoughts on it?

Hi Mari61960;
I own a lot of animals. I have 6 cats, a dog, two horses, and a guinea pig. I have actually considered getting them health insurance coverage before. One time that I really wished I had it for them was a couple of years ago when my oldest cat Katie had to have surgery and she lost her left eye. The surgery and vet costs were $750.00. All in all it wasn't as high as it could have been, but still, the coverage would have been nice to have.
I was wondering, do you know how much it costs for coverage? I'm assuming that the fees are different per animal type, but it's definitely something that I will look into again in the near future. Thanks for bringing this back to the forefront of my mind. I love my animals and want to see that they can get the best healthcare possible! :)

Here is a link that will tell you a quick quote. I checked out prices for my to chi's. Gizmo (2 yrs) 30.17 per month. Bella (12weeks) 27.58 per month. If I got insurance for both or them they would give a discout of 11.35 so my total monthly payment would be $46.40 per month. I don't think I can afford that while I am out of work on disability...lol I just hope they never need it.

Thanks for the link. I'll have to give it a look-see. Although with 2 of my kitties being 19 and 18 years old, it'll probably be expensive. Ah, well, I'll look into it anyway. Never hurts to look, right?

I have though about it. It is very expensive and as I keep my pets so healthy they only need their routine shots it is cheaper for me just to pay myself for the services.

I would love to have it for them but I just can't justify the expense at this point.

I don't have ins. on my pets, as I cannot afford it. So, if and when, the do get sick, then I will be stuck I suppose. I will have to charge it, if it is too high.

I have insurance for all of my pets. I believe it is great to have and has saved me money in the long run. It even covered the emergency surgery that one of my female cats had to have because her uterus became infected. It was a lifesaver I can guarantee that, otherwise it would have cost nearly $600 for the surgery and antibotics that she was given. We only had to pay $100 for it all thanks to the insurance we have for her.

That's awesome, as soon as I can afford it I am going to get it for my two chihuahuas. It really is good to have.

I do not mainly because when I researched it a while back I came upon many reviews that said it was not worth it compared to just paying out of pocket.
My best savings has come from comparing prices of various vets.

I agree, it's not bad if you only have one pet. But it's far too costly I think for the average household with several pets.
