How a antivirus software searches a virus.?

The anitvirus software scans files, and it has a whole data base of information about what different viruses do. When it scans a file, it checks to see if the file has the properties of a virus, and if it does, the scanner knows what type of virus it is based on the data base, and so it can tell you what type it is.
