Hi, Ubuntu is a complete linux distro that comes with a live cd, so you can test it without installing to your hard drive and messing things up. The things that make Ubuntu different from other linux distro's are: 1. Ubuntu can be ordered free of charge from http://shipit.ubuntu.com 2. It's repositories are full of thousands of usefull packages that other distros do not have. 3. It is completely newbie friendly and thus its easy to use than other distro's like Slackware etc. 4. It is lightweight and comes in only 1 cd. Unlike other distros that come with 2 or more cd's like Red Hat. I personally prefer Ubuntu as the best linux distro for a newbie and an advanced and experienced user.

First off all Ubuntu is debian based. So the packet system is really nice! 2. There is half year update cycle. And there is a real company behind it. I would say if you dont use ubuntu give it a try. There different flavors of ubuntu out: there is Kubuntu ubuntu with KDE, and there is Xubuntu ubuntu xfe. They all come with a live cd so you can try them without installing them!

If you are a newbie (new linux user) you can try Ubuntu ultimate edition... This distro include lot of programs and multimedia codecs. Is available live cd too, so you can try it without install in your pc.
