I don't think there's any need to make them change. You might get a few funny looks but what does it matter if they are happy!

Of course I have. I don't think letting them pick what they want to wear out is so bad. It allows their character to shine. My girls have not only done this but have gone out in mix match clothes and have been very confident about what they are wearing. I don't let them do it all the time though. Sometimes they have to wear their regular clothes out.

it gives them such joy to pick out their own lothes once in a while. and it gives them good learning skills as well. my daughter will even wear her pants that have writing on the bum backwards. she says she wants it in the front so she can see it. i usually let her do it. there is no harm in it right.

I think it depends on the costume. I have let my daughter wear her costumes out that are not flimsy. As long as the costume is well put together and she is not exposed in anyway. I don't see a problem with it. I never really let her wear fancy dress up clothes to go shopping but if we were going to a friends house or her grams she wore those kind of clothes there and back.

My little sister was the dressing up queen. She rarely wore normal clothes and even when she was 10 on dress down days at school she would go in dressed up.
Some children are just so creative and have such wonderful imaginations that it is virtually impossible for them to wear normal clothes and I just think - why force them?
Let them do it as much as they like and one day they will just grow o ut of it. I don't think people will think you are a bad parent or anything and will just think that your daughter is delightful.
Our problem though was trying to get Emma to put on a coat over her outfit if it was cold outside!!!

my daughter is like that too. she will freeze before she covers something up that she really likes and wants to show off.

I use to tell my daughter she wasn't going to the store with me dresses in a costume, but now I don't care! I think it is cute actually...if she is comfortable with it I shouldn't be telling her it isn't okay =)

hey i figure as long as she covered up it's ok. i would never let her out in a short top that shows her belly and short shorts or other revealing outfits. so as long as everything is covered why not.

No, kids are kids. They are only young once. My daughter Teresa is not going to want to wear her Princess dresses with her Bratz shoes forever. She is only 6. I want her to be a child forever or untill she is ready to grow up.
great topic! I love your AV. I would show it my daughter but it would make her yell, PRINCESS way to loud. LOL

most kids in disney do wear costumes so make sure you tell your hubby that if he says he can't wear one, it might change his mind.

ah heck no! Nothing is any cuter than a child dressed up. I know that I would so enjoy seeing that now that I have no young ones anymore! How wonderful that would be at the grocery. As I stand there wincing at the high prices, to look up and see an adorable little princess. It would ease the pain!!!

Sure I have. My daughter has worn her princess a few times and then my son has worn his spiderman costume a few times as well. If they are just playing and we have to go to the store, then hey "why not?" LOL I think it's cute and it's just a trip to the store...it's not like we are going to the royal palace or something. :)
