I was in Subway this weekend...

and asked for my usual sandwich, turkey on Italian herb bread with Provalone cheese. The kid behind the counter said they longer carry provalone! WHAT??? That is like the staple on any cold cut sandwich at our house. Is this true? Is Subway doing away with the provolone? I hope that it is just a local thing, and I can still find it at another store.

That kid must have been misinformed. I was at subway the other day and I got provolone on my turkey and ham sandwich. I don't know what that kid was thinking but I'm pretty sure they have not gotten rid of provolone at the Subways.

I like it because it seems lighter than the other cheeses.

Well, that's kind of what I'm thinking. he was probably just too lazy to get some more out of the cooler. (I'm hoping that's it, anyway!) I would sure hate it if my favorite cheese is gone for good!

I am not certain if they are doing away with provalone cheese. I had lunch their today and had my usual sub-sandwich with provalone on it. So maybe I was just lucky and my local Subway still had some or it is just a local thing for you. Either way I don't understand why they would stop carrying provalone cheese. To me most cheese is made about the same way, just certain cheeses are aged longer than others. I hope this is not true.

I agree. I like just about all cheeses, but provalone is my favorite on a sandwich. I hope that it was just a fluke thing and the kid behind the counter didn't know what he was talking about.

Well these days one can never be certain it seems just about everything we eat, someone discovers something unhealthy about it or if there wasn't than they make up something to why it's unhealthy to eat. So at this point anyone's guess is a good one on why they would do away with a certain cheese. It could be that this person you speak of was just being a lazy person and didn't want to go back to the store room and get any more out to.

oh man! no provolone! provolone is an excellent sandwich cheese, being of hardy flavor and not too soft in texture. I suppose if not provolone I would choose a swiss. Does subway even carry swiss cheese?
I am lucky, the store I frequent often has provolone slices (in the round) for 99cents a pound. I stock up!

WOW!! 99 cents!! Can you send some over to me??? LOL!! Around here, it's about 3.49/lb. Not bad, but 99 cents is better. :)
