This is no weird question because many people today work alone in their office. But what if you are already working with few other colleagues and one fine day you got to know that they haven't turned up unannounced and you have to work alone. Will you work as a loner for the day or will you think of playing hooky from work?

I used to work all alone on Sundays, since it was overtime work. And not many people would call either. Internet was new (in my area) those days and the connection at the office was fast (compared to home). Also the office had the benefit of an air conditioner. I did work though, whenever it turned out to be boring I just reminded myself that the laser printer was free and I could print the whole web! :)

It depends on what type of work you are in. If we work for big corporate like Banks, Industry, etc we are bound to follow by the rules and regulations. There are certain rules that we have to follow when we are in a company/organization. A branded company will never allow a person to work alone in his/her office and that situation will never come his/her way as far as i understand. But if we are in a small company/job we come across such situation as mentioned above. If that would be me, I can bravely leave the day happily.

I have often ended up working alone, and have been called to attend early because nobody else has arrived at work. I simply accept this as a fact of life and carry on.
There have been numerous ocassions when I have had a heavy workload and remained there after everyone else has gone home, and have even called into work on a Sunday if I have been busy.
