Do you think Flip Flops are dangerous?

Now that the weather is warming ( it was a balmy 76 here in Eastern Kentucky today) the young girls are out with their flip flops on their feet. Do you think these shoes pose any danger in terms of driving, going up and down steps or anything? They seem to be all the rage, they are almost all I see!

I wear flip flops all the time in the summer. That is unless I am cuttting grass or driving. I have worn them for years and have never had any problems. But if one is not careful, they can be dangerous. I have had a few close calls. I very seldom would drive with flip flops on. I think that is somewhat dangerous.

That is what worries me about my daughter wearing them. She hasn't been driving long and I can just see a flipflop hung under the gas pedal or something.

I think that they are very dangerous. In the 60's we wore them in the southwest. I always tripped, stubbed a toe, and caught the flip flop under the car petel. I really don't understand why fashion comes before comfort or safety.

Margie you bring up the very point that worries me the worst, driving in flipflops. I am so afraid that my daughter's flipflop will get caught under the gas pedal or something. They couldn't be good for your feet either, there is no arch support! I thought they were for wearing at the beach, not everyday!

Yes I think flipflops are a hazard. Why I continue to wear them is beyond me. I end up driving barefooted. I always loose the left one going up stairs. I think the reason is that they are too easy to put on and take off. I will probably end up doing a lipstand one day, but I guess in my case safety takes a backseat to convenience.

I wear flip flops all the time and YES I do think they are dangerous. I don't know how many times I have almost fallen and killed myself. LOL

Yes flip flops are dangerous, but oh so comfortable and quick to put on. I live in mine in the summer, although when I drive I take them off, as I have gotten them caught on the pedals before. I have tripped on stairs, and stubbed my toes and twisted my foot. I would much rather just go barefoot but since that is not always an option I choose flip flops. I do try to be aware and most of the time I go without incident, but when the first incident happens it seems that they continue for a period of time. I will continue to wear mine, as I just think their to cute and comfortable to pass up. :)

Flip flops are what I wear all the time, unless there is snow on the ground or it is raining. I have stubbed my toes quite a few times over the years. Even though, I wouldn't give up the comfort of not having my feet completly covered all the time. I am a barefoot kinda person so flip flops are the least kind of shoe I can get away with. This is why I wear them :)

From past experience of wearing these, yes they are very dangerous especially if you are an active person. I think sandals are much better because they stay on better. I would run in flip flops and they would almost tear my toe off, or I would catch the front on the pavement and go for a head dive.

I think they are very dangerous for several reasons. They are too easy to get your foot stuck in them and it is so easy to stip on one with the other. They do not protect the feet in any way either. They are cheap made and the thing between the toes seem to come out really easy.

I think they can be, but then again anything can be dangerous if you aren't careful. I think if you use extra caution and don't try to run, and watch how you behave, flip flops will just be like any other shoe. I think flip flops on teens are more dangerous as they like to goof off and don't tread carefully.

I think flip flops are dangerous. I have some, but I only wear them when I'm going outside to let the dogs out or something. I would never drive in them. My little sister drives and does whatever else in them. I think she's crazy. She doesn't see a problem with it, though. I know that on the few occasions that I've worn them longer, I almost always almost fall down. They are just too easy to trip in. Plus I need something to support my huge arches. :) I don't really get why a person would want to wear them all the time. Sandals don't take but another 5 seconds to put on and they are more comfortable and far less dangerous.

Flip flops or thongs (as we call them here) have always been a staple item of footwear in Australia. It's been years since I've worn them but I don't remember tripping or stubbing a toe. I remember having a pair of ruby covered velvet covered ones as a kid and I loved them.

All I wear in the summer is flip flops. I don't have any trouble walking or driving in them. The only time I ever had an issue with them was with a pair that had a two inch platform under the toe. Those were dangerous! But flat ones don't really have a problem for me in everyday use.

I wear flip flops alot, but not to drive! I know someome that got her flip flop stuck behind the gas pedal and crashed!! Not good!! I have never had an issue going up and down steps in them though and I am really clumsy!! I do think they are pretty scary when it comes to driving!

In my opinion, they are a hazard, as they can suddenly leave the foot and cause a person to trip or cut themselves on sidewalk debris or get hit by oncoming traffic, if one chooses to run across a busy intersection... The other thing is that, I live in an area where there are a lot of young people woh have a knid of curious sort of "Flip-Flopperitus", if you will... they start wearing them the moment that weather temps become comfortable, ie: anywhere above 32 degrees and hoards at a time will kind of gather together, Penguin-like, and start initiating thier instinctive flop-flopping, cell-phone yapping behaviors in medium-to-large groups... Very irritating, indeed, especially if they happen to be "flip-flopping + cell-phone yapping" while you are trying to take a quiet walk for yourself... Did you know that a young lady, I think she is a native of Germany, has patented the name "Flip Flops" and is making a fortune with them?

I think they can be very dangerous if you are walking on uneven surfaces or driving. Just for going to the mall or out to eat, if you're not driving, would be OK. There are some really cute flip-flops now- they really are right up there on the summer fashion list these days. Sandals are a better option,at least for me. I'm a clutz, and I would trip in flip-flops for sure!

I can't wear those darn things, they always fall off my feet, or I fall off them. I think they're dangerous, which is why I don't wear them. I also feel the same way about heels....being dangerous that is, and that's why I don't wear them. It's gotta be slippers or sneakers for me to be 100% comfortable. I'd rather go barefoot than wear flip-flops, and I'm not big on going barefoor either.

Gosh ,I never thought of flip flops as being dangerous. My kids were them from the time they were old enough to fit in a pair and one of my daughters still wears them. She has them in different styles and colours.I guess basically one has to use common sense about where you were them and what sort of activity you are doing . But then that is the same with any kind of foot wear. You don't put on high heels to go jogging or hiking, or even a job where you will be on your feet all day . At my age my flip flops are are more comfortable than a pair of shoes with heels .

Hello Crazy! I wear flip flops only to work around the yard, but the other day, I needed to run to the store and yes, they felt VERY dangerous to drive in. I think I'd rather drive bare foot than with those on.

I live in South Florida and they are very popular down here too. I think they were more popular last year for some reason but down here where it's warm I'm sure they will always be around. I can see some dangers, such as someone stepping on the back and tripping you up, but I haven't ever seen or heard of a major accident because of wearing flip flop. I personally don't wear them, but my daughter has warn them quite a bit and has never had any major problems.
