"Uploading" I think, for example you have a file at your computer and you would like to send it to the net, that is when we "upload" your file from your PC to the internet."Downloading" for example, you have seen a file on the internet that you would like to have a copy on you PC, that is when we "download" a file from the internet to your computer.... hope this helps... =)

Thank you now I know the difference. It makes sense, guess I never gave it enough thought.

Uplaoding is taking the file from your computer and putting it onto the internet or a network. Down loading is the reverse; taking a file from a shared area and putting it onto your computer.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for asking this question because I have often wondered as well. So I shall be watching your responses to see if I can find out what the difference is.

Well tad1fan since everyone already explained it, there is no reason for me to repeat it. So I'll just say hello to you.

I'm sure you've rec'd other answers by now, but I believe uploading is taking a file from your computer hard drive and putting it on the internet; whereas, downloading is taking a file off the internet and putting it on your computer hard drive.
