Anyone chase tornadoes?

I've always been fascinated by tornadoes, though I've never seen one. I have seen a cold weather funnel, but it didn't touch down. My fiance and I are both interested in tornado chasing and may head down to Tornado Alley this spring to do some chasing. I have a pretty good knowledge of tornadoes, as I read and watch everything I can on them. Can anyone offer us any advice? Anyone care to share tornado chasing stories? I'd love to hear about your experiences!

I was working in a restaurant many years ago, and there were tornados touching down all over the place. Now, I live in Maryland which isn't a big tornado state. We have maybe 3 sitings per year. Anyway, this particular afternoon, it was raining hard and they had been calling for tornados all day. I was standing by the front door of the restaurant and say one going down the middle of the road. It was actually funny. There were no cars on the road, but the tornado seemed like it was a car, chugging down the center of the road. Since that time, I have also wanted to spend a vacation tornado chasing. I'll have to wait until my youngest gets a bit older. She's 5. But I would love to take the whole family.

I know torandoes have touched down in every state of the U.S., but it still sounds odd to hear of them in Maryland! I hope nobody was hurt that day. Do you get very strong tornadoes there?

Being as i know you are scared of bridges, the best bit about last year was thundering over a very open bridge in pursuit of the tornado. We flashed over that bridge at the speed limit and all because the radio announcement had given a warning for some miles beyond.
Still, it was all exciting stuff and included the pair of us following a brilliant lightning storm, across at least 2 states heading back up to Minnesota.
It's envigorating stuff - this year we'll see one for real :)

That was a very exciting day, wasn't it? It was also scary that we were chasing them when it got dark. We'll have to go down a little earlier in the season this year, I think.

I have never even seen a real tornado, but did witness the live fury of a full force Hurricane.
I was in Cuba in the late 90's when Hurricane Michelle hit and it was a wonder to behold first hand..
Sure gives you an idea of Mother Nature's power.

Good luck in Tornado Alley. Last summer I was driving through there and I saw seven tornadoes in one day. Watch to see which way they're going, and make sure that you're not in its path. Other than that I think you should be alright.

Seven tornadoes in one day? I bet you had trouble staying out of a tornado's path that day!

Not so much because most of the time they were headed in an opposite direction. The one scaryt one was when we wcouldn't tell which direction it was going, and it looked like it was coming straight for us!
