HIGH SCHOOL How Serious Should You Take It?

What if you find it boring? What if there is nothing about it that internists you? Should you force yourself to go on anyway. What if college doesn't internist you and you would rather just go ahead and jump into a job and just do the best you can with what you have? I have a close friend that is a junior in high school and does not find it at all interesting and cannot see the importance of finishing with high grades. I would love to know if there is anyone else with a similar opinion or some good points that say different. Is there anything I could do to spark an interest? I remember when I was in high school and I couldn't wait to get out and do my own thing. No one could tell me anything then.......how can I expect my friend to be any different?

Have to agree High School for me was a total drag. Boring and depressing. More interested in having fun than home work. I followed my heart and what I wanted to do I quit in grade 11. Got married a year later. Had 3 kids found marriage was a little or alot rocky and where was I Working for a lousy $4 or $5 dollar an hour job. Shift work to boot and no spare time for my kids. Ok perhaps minimum wage has gone up now a days But the again so has everything else. If my marriage split up how was going to feed my boys, pay rent, heat, hydro the basics of living I decided then and ther Come Hell or high water I was going back to school. Wrote my equivalency exam and started to college Took nursing I mean why not Doing it at home full time anyway. Take in consideration that hubby didn't want me to go. I had 3 young boys and one was in diapers To make a long story short I got my degree Graduated and got a job Starting was $14/ hour Heck of alot better than $4 Course that is going back quite a few years It is imperative that she get grade 12 Otherwise she be doing minimum wage jobs for the rest of her life. Not a thrilling concept by any means Tell her to think about it seriously It is a chance in a lifetime The feeling it gives to accomplish it is one that can be taken lightly Wendy

I seem to remember similar thoughts going through my head when I was in High School. I know I did finish High School and instead of going off to college, I thought, Id jump right into the work force. I ended up in the Military instead. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy my tour while I was there, but If I look back on it and how my life is today. I would of put a lot more into my High School years, and went off to college.

I have some same experience as what you're friend is dealing with right now, but I manage to enjoy more about high school life than college. I missed my high school when I was in college, it seems that high school sinked to me later. Because for me, high school is the best part of a student's life. We can enjoy life and studying at the same, while in college, everything that we did in high school is very more difficult and different. I suggest that you point to him some positive advantages of finishing studies, he just have to sacrifice a little to attain a diploma or a degree in life. Tell him that it's more important, and that it would be a big help for him when he looks for a good job. I think he just want some support from people like you, and you as his friend, should try your best to push him in pursuing his studies..

You never know how important high school is until you get out in the real world. It is very important, I wish I could go back and do it again, everyone I talk to said they would have studied more and tried harder.

High school is the one of the most important times of your lives. It is when you learn a lot not only about acedemics but about the world because it is when you get a job and school at the same time. You need to manage each and be successful at each. Getting into a good college is huge and will effect you for the rest of your life. Would you rather be a doctor or a burger flipper at McDonalds? You choose. It is VERY VERY important and no matter what even if you find it boring you gotta do it and finish it up. Its not that bad everyone does it try to find a way to make it fun. It will make the time and the classes go by so much faster.

I think you should go into high school with a fairly serious attitude but I don't think that it needs to be taken as seriously as some people expect. When I was in high school it just felt like there was so much pressure and you were expected to know what career you wanted to have in the future, something that I was clueless about back then! I will admit that around here, a lot of jobs will not even consider hiring someone who doesn't have a high school diploma, so that's something to consider. The good news though, is that you don't have to sit in a regular high school setting to earn a diploma, there are other options. I completed much of my high school diploma online and I have nothing but good things to say about this method of education, it worked for me. This method of education really improves your self-disciplinary skills and I found that it was less distracting, my marks went up by over 15% in most courses. Of course there is always the GED option as well.

It never came into my life that going to school would be boring. Although for some it is and I understand that. But we need to learn. We need that so that we could get something in return.

I don't think you can get by in the US these days without a HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA. It will come back to haunt them. Yeah, you can work at McD;s or in construction, but if anyone is ever going to promote you to become manager of anyone or anything, you need at LEAST a high school diploma. IN many cases, companies won't even HIRE you without it. yeah, a lot of people think it sucks, but high school gives you basic, and only basic skills to survive. It is becoming more and more common that you need a college degree to even get jobs and get promoted. I would encourage everyone ti finish high school. If you don't like high school -are you going to like the menial jobs offered to you without a diploma?

If I had it all to do over again devideddi, I would have tried to study harder, attend more regularly and found a reason to enjoy it more. That was 40 years ago. I wish I would have done a better job at it then.

the truth of it is that you have to do well enough to get to the next stage at least if you get good grades and SATs, you get to go to a better chool and maye get a scholarship, if not just a medium good school if you get to that good school, you get good teachers who might hook you up with whetever you will enjoy and will make you rich too maybe if you enjoy reading and learning anything, stay in school and try for that dream, even if you are already rich if not, just get any old job and live the best you can

in today's society it is hard to get a good paying job with no education, meaning no high school dipolma. my advise for your friend is if she really can't not stand to go to school anymore is to drop out but to also then seek out getting her GED. and if she does not want to go to college then she shouldn't she can get a job and then later on down the road go on to further her education if she wants.

Hi, As a friend, the only thing you can do is encourage them; ask them to strive to learn something, additionally, the effort is for personal benefit, in the long run it hurts only you not to do your very best in everything. This method worked for my kids; somehow you must get you friend to do their best, for him/herself (self-motivated pride in a job well done). hope this helps, countdown21.com countdown21.com

I can totally understand your friend's situation. High school bored the crap out of me. It wasn't challenging enough, there was too much busywork and emphasis on standardized testing. Many high schools seem to only be interested in students memorizing information so that they can perform well on tests. I don't think I actually learned much at all. However, although I skipped a lot of class senior year, I still got good grades. The material was easy and I have always been a perfectionist, so I couldn't bring myself to completely give up. And I'm glad I didn't, because it got me the grades and test scores I needed to get into college. After high school I really didn't want to go to college because I was so burnt out on the idea of education after the last few torturous years of high school. But my parents were pressuring me and all my friends were going away to school, so I applied late to the only college I was interested in and was accepted. I found college to be much more inspiring. While it still wasn't what I had hoped, there were challenging and thought-provoking courses and I met people who had a genuine passion for learning. I'm really glad that I had the experience and I think that unless you're one of a lucky few, you're not going to just stumble upon a good job without a college degree.

It's okay if you want to skip high school and college and just get a job. But most companies around the world today would rather hire a person who has a college degree than a person who did not even finish high school. If you want, you can try various clubs which you have an interest, at least you have othr activities that can keep you occupied aside from your studies.

i believe hi school education is something to be taken in seriously. i believe it is the second chance to establish a solid foundation when formal education is considered. first of all the basic foundation for a good education is at the elementary level. study habits and lessons acquired at the elementary level will make high school education easier. it is bcoz higher education needs the very basic skills and lessons we ought to learn in the beginning. generally students class performance are seen by his/her rating on the previous level. unless a student change his/her attitude (strive or relax) matters a change in ones performance. in life there are moments and things that we need to consider seriously and one of these is education. it is in ones personal aspiration to find solution to interest him if he lost it, one must give value to education or acquiring knowledge bcoz for me a good education still matters!

I totally understand. I was bored in school too. The only thing that kept me going was that high school was like a social gathering. I would see my friends every day, that part was fun. I finished high school. As for college, none of my friends were going, so I didn't either. One of the reasons I regret not going on to college is the fun that I missed. I have so many friends now that lived in the dorms and had sooo much fun! They partied and met so many life long friends, as well as some spouses. Another benefit is that college, and certainly high school, opens up so many more doors/opportunities that you wouldn't have otherwise. Who wants to be a clerk, receptionist or gas station attendant their whole lives? Nobody. I'm almost finished with college now, and I'm 42. It's taken me over 12 years. Do it before you have kids and responsibilities. Get as much education as you can - it affects your whole life - seriously.
