First Investment - Condo or House?

United States

Everyone I do have my own opinion on which one is better, which all boils down to the numbers behind things. However I would like to hear everyone else's opinion on which one a first time owner / investor should purchase, either a condo/townhouse or Single Family Residence (house). All comments will be appreciated!

I think what you should purchase should be based on your individual preference. You also have to consider things like real estate taxes and homeowners insurance, condo fees and things like that. The taxes and other fees are normally lower on a condo or townhome, however resale value is usually larger ona single family home.

Well for me I would rather invest on my own house.. I really like a little cozy house than a condo. It makes me comfortable

I can completely understand your desire for a cozy house that's away from noisy neighbors however in Southern California a lot the homes are build extremely close to each other making the the separation almost not even there. Thank you very much for your comment.

I believe a single family residence is a better way to go. The chances of selling a single family residence is higher than selling a condo because you have a better showing rate for single family residences than condos. People prefer their privacy plus they are more entice on owning land than just a fraction of a building.

Condo or House? I think it just depends on the needs of the buyer. If it is a family with kids I would say a house, where there would be a backyard for the kids to play in. But there is also single people who buy houses too. I am single and wanting to buy a condo in the near future because with just me, I don't want to have to bother with a yard. I wan't as much maintenance free as I can get like renting, but owning. I don't want to throw away my money from renting like I had in the past.
