I salute Mr. Manny Pacquiao, the current WBC International Super Featherweight champion, for bring pride to the Philippines especially during these times when widespread poverty and political turmoil seems to make people lose hope. I am proud of his achievements - a clear and booming testimonial of the Filipino's excellence anywhere in the world. Only in his fights do the country experience the lowest crime rates as every Filipino stays home watching in awe as he knocks out foreign legends. On such occasions, things stop in the Philippines. Every eye is glued on the tube or screen, eagerly awaiting a glorious victory for Manny and the Philippines. Being from the same city as he is, I am one of the proudest. He put Genereral Santos City in the limelight not just in the Philippines but all across the globe. Now here comes the dilemma, he wants to use his popularity and money to win a seat in Congress representing our district. In every poll conducted, the results tell a glaring truth - people don't want him to run!!! I feel a deep scorn in his decision. People have deep respect for him because he came from humble beginnings. He carried that humility all throughout. He is a symbol of quiet perseverance, dedication and passion. But now I think pride and wealth is beginning to sink in him. While his intentions for running in Congress are good, he is a neophyte in that arena. If he is really sincere in serving the people, he could have run as City Councilor wherein the responsibilites are significantly less and from there learn how to handle greater things. Do you agree with me? I think by his utter disregard for the people's opinion, I am beginning to feel bland and indifferent to him as I am with the traditional politicians sprawling across the country. How do you feel about his candidacy? Should he pursue or not? What are your views?
