in the past its hard to get in touch with someone. a snail mail would be the effective way of telling someone an important message or a way to get in touch with them. and it takes a long time for you to get a response.
but today, there so many ways to get in touch with someone. and its so easy. email and cellphones to name a few.
but with a more developed and advanced world, can someone live without these amazing communication gadgets?

Of course they can. We can live without them if we choose to. Look at the Amish for instance. They still use horse and buggy for transportation. They do not have computers, cell phones, or even televisions. They manage to live quite well without them. They choose not to. The mainstream of society chooses to use them but in essence we do not have to have them. All we have to have is food, shelter and clothing to survive. The rest are just things we like to make our lives more comfortable or the work easier.

i think it all depends on the lifestyle of a person. a person who has spent all his life in a highly developed place with all the advanced technologies surrounding him would surely find life miserable without these things. however, a man who lives in the jungle can keep up with life without these technologies. needless to say, their notion of survival is only tantamount to food and shelter.
another point of comparison: a rich businessman needs a mobile phone; a pauper doesn't need one.
