There are several software prgrams available that are capable of opening a PDF file, but the obvious choice is Adobe Acrobat Reader as previously suggested by numerous respondants.
Acrobat reader is totally free to download and is available for Windows, Linux and Apple systems.

adobe got 2 type of program for opening pdf.
Simply and free version is call adobe reader.
There is another call Adobe Acrobat which allow user to do some simple editing on the pdf file., you able to crop, extract the pdf out, extract image out, set security.....
If you don't want to use this, there is another call JPedal which is written by Java program. You have to make sure your machine has the Java runtime environment to run it.

I've used adobe acrobat reader but I don't care for it now. It just bogs down my system horribly. I've been using Foxit Software and it's much nicer. It's free to use and download. Their main site is here: http://www.foxitsoftware.com/ and you can download it here http://www.foxitsoftware.com/downloads/
I hope that helps you out.

To open a PDF file you can use the most popular sofware like Acrobat reader, but due to its loading time, I avoid it. Of course Acrobat 5.0 is somewhat better to load. However apart to Acrobat, you can have following options. These are very swift to load.
1. eXpert PDF reader at http://www.visagesoft.com You can have choice to read, create, edit your PDF with much more options.
2. Foxit reader at http://www.foxitsoftware.com
