A good way to differentiate love and friendship: "Without you i can't live" - is Love "You must live, i am with you" - is Friendship Friendship and Love are pure in their own forms, when they have been understood and practised in the right way...

It's an occurence in life & is a holy feeling of heart. Love is essential fou us. Love is part of life but life is not love. Love is not for getting any thing but it's for rendering or giving everything to others or to whom you love.So you can't stop or avoid LOVE! Friendship on the other side is not an occurence it can be formatted accepted or denied as you think comfortable to you. This companionship is dry type of relation which is likely to break at any moment if not served in it's own disciplined manner. So friendship is an option in life but the love once met can't be forgotten or denied either. Wish you a lovely life.
