Warning for those e-gold users if you want to claim your money don't forget to keep your passphrase. I got this from an e-gold user who can't claim her earnings because she forgot the passphrase. It's important that you remember or save your passphrase.

I am sure there must be some way that your friend can contact them and get a new passphrase. I remember when I was registering with them, I had to fill in a section that said 'alternate passphrase' and I unsderstood that I could use this when I wanted to contact them if I lost my passphrase. I alway print out the registration forms and fill in the passphrases. I then keep them in a file as otherwise I would never remember all the passphrases which I need for the different sites.

I did save my passphrase. I knew that it was some sort of password for the account so I remember it carefully. It's too bad for the person who forgot her passphrase. I hope she'll find it out soon.

Yes, I personally write it down somewhere.Someone I know also lost his password. There is no way to access the account. Not even th support department can help you.
