The Filipino diet is a health disaster. Like the American diet, the Filipino way of eating is composed of so much cholesterol and all unhealthy stuff. Though many of these foods also have veggies and fruits, a majority of Pinoy recipes is in general a threat to the life span of anybody eating it. For example, foods like adobo and kare-kare sure are super tasty, in fact foods of this sort are irresistable, but how these foods get their taste may make a health conscious person think twice.. Saturated coconut oils, salty soy sauce, sugar, peanuts and so many more contribute to this specially fabulous flavor..
But should we deprive ourselves?
Or should we continue enjoying our food?

If we don't eat, we die. It we eat, we die also. So it's better to die with a full stomach and having a hell of a great time going about it...LOL..Seriously, moderation my friend is the key. We don't actually eat adobo or kare-kare or lechon everyday. If fact, more of us gets to eat vegetables and seafoods.

i dont think that the filipio diet is a disater if you can see there is not that much obese people here yup there are some we still eat fastfood but ours the way we cook food is diffrent from them they usually have these ready to eat foods that you just pop at the microwave as for us we still savor the home cooked meals its how we cook it to be able to say that it could be healthy like example for adobo lessen the salt and remove the fat from the pork

I cook it all the time for my family, but we tend to add "Americanized" options to our food in order to make them better for us. In kare-kare we use light peanut butter, lean beef, and good vegetables like bok choy, spinach, and chinese string beans to balance out the food. I also use less bagoong to stay away from the salt.
It's a matter or preference and health, sure. But these are also the foods of our heritage and I don't see myself phasing them out just because they might be bad for me. A lot of foods are real bad for you if you have enough of it. Moderation and healthy alternatives might just be the key here.
I say... EAT, DRINK, AND BE MERRY!!!!

We Filipinos love to eat. Whenever there is a fiesta, we eat like there's no tomorrow. And then there's Christmas and New Year and Birthdays. And most of the food we offer during these occasions are full of cholesterol. They are bad for our health but oh so delicious. But as Wolfgang Puck would say: Live, Love and Eat.

These dishes are lethally delicious. And I think these dishes were concocted for special occasions and not for everyday consumption since they take a long time to prepare and the intent for the concoction of these dishes to be eaten only for certain occasions moderates the intake of the cholesterol rich ingredients of these dishes.

In a sense the Filipino diet can be health threatening. Let me cite an example: KARE-KARE...pork, peanut butter, stringbeans, it is all there: cholesterol, uric acid..sugar for diabetes..another is SISIG, CRISPY PATA, LECHON, my goodness...but I think deprivation is no the answer, but MODERATION...

i agree that the filipino diet is such a health disaster! everytime we have fiestas/handaan, i always feel heavy and bloated after the day. i really can't help not to eat every dish on the table! everything's delicious. pinoy dishes are really tempting especially when you are in a diet and sometimes you cheat your diet because of this "to crave for" dishes. it's really in our culture to have good food because we pinoys love to cook, celebrate and eat! this is also the reason why there are lots of overweight people in our country. look at those in the lower class, even though they are financially challenge still a lot of them are "fat"... this is because when there's "handaan sa kapitbahay, nakikikain!" we don't care too much about our health, we just want to indulge our selves with food! :)
