it depends upon the opponent. initially after 5-6 moves, i get an arly advantage then i open my full game and play attackng. otherwise i prefer playing defensive because while playing defensive there r lesser chances of makng mistakes. atleast this is the case with me. i've won many games while playing defensive

Attacking is the best defense, but when you are attacking you must have a good position for it and because white has the advantage of the first move ,you first have to defend with black untill you 'll be in the condition to attack, white must try to keep his advantage and as long as he keeps this advantages he can attack.

I heard once from my friend (a really good chess player and freak), and I guess he read this somewhere in his collection of chess books..
"White plays for a win, while Black plays for a draw"
Yeah, this could be true.. as White, you already have an advantage.. you're leading by 1/2 tempo.. so White should try to convert his/her little advantage to a win.. as for Black.. you are to avoid White from increasing his/her advantage and at the same time try to "steal" his/her advantage.
But I also heard once (not sure about the source) which is "Chess is a balanced game". Thus that's why many high-level games end in a draw. So, this little advantage isn't really that big, it is just enough to distinguish between the attacking player and the defending player.
So, yeah, theoretically, i guess you're right.

I don't think there is a significant advantage of getting white or black. Many world class chess games that are played by grandmasters end up in draws. It is how you move and respond to the situation of the game that really matters. You should play the game on its merit. Look at the position and then decide. You should have a balance of attack and defense. Anyhow this really depends on the position. For example at the beginning most of the time developing pieces is better than attacking. You should try to look at most of the possibilities before moving your piece.
