Compared to last year, this issue has really been blown up by the media and the education ministry. I don't understand why the ministry is discouraging students not to take extra subjects. Hishamuddin himself said that maximum should be 12. He questioned the move of students who took extra subjects.
Personally, I think that's a personal insult. The students choose to take extra subjects because they want to. And many who take extra subjects are very bright students. In my school, there's a student who took 17 subjects and got 15 1A's. His news is in The Star - Jabez Ho. Our nation needs this type of highly potential manpower, and yet the government is being really shortsighted of saying "No, don't take extra subjects."
Pak Lah himself said that Malaysia is striving for more modal insan. And yet now they're discouraging people to take extra subjects. In my opinion, I think the government is just trying to protect certain people from being overwhelmed by this new wave of bright students. They've done a very bad job of setting up a quota for scholarships, now they're discouraging people from taking too many extra subjects because that would make the scholarship opportunities less for other, erm, protected and prioritised students.

Sorry, little brother. When i read your comment,i guess that u must be years younger than me. Then i went to your profile,hmm..and i was right. You just sixteen...
I was there in your place before. I was a boarding school student. My school was one of the top school in Malaysia. During my time,we were the no 1 school when the PMR result was announced and during SPM,we were in the top 3.So u can imagine how we were trained mentally and physically to achieve that.
We were taking the maximum of 10 subjects (at that time my school only permitted students to take max of 10 subjects). Most of us were eagerly compete with each other to get the best results. That is good.. after all,by getting good results, our chances of studying abroad will increased by certain percent...
But when i went to further my study and land a job.. i don't see the importance of taking so many subjects and get a good job. Ministry of education's decision to limit the subjects was not about personal's insult,bro..it is for the students' own good.Believe me.You will understand this one day.
Quality is better than quantity. That is what they are doing.Give me only one good reason why do you want to burden yourselves by taking so many subjects?Only one good reason..
And i want you to know one thing, scholarship is limited and open for those who are eligible. There must be quota unless you won't appreciate that. And government are generous enough to give scholarship to us.Some does not have to work with government after they finish the study. And there are not much hussle to apply for that.Ok,if you do not want government scholarship, then there are many other choices..you just name it...Maybank,Tenaga, and many more are offerings the scholarships.
You will understand one day.. good luck,bro..

Personally, i think the student taking more extra subject because they want more 'A' in their result. i don't think taking more subject shows the student are brilliant.
For example, if the student taking Fizik, Kimia and Biologi... surpose they do not take general sains. Of course they will get 'A' for the subject since the subject are primary level
