I have a page there, and I love it. And so does alot of my friends and family. But heres my question, the stars you can look up, well is it really them?I mean I can make a page up and be Bill Clinton if I wanted to.So how can you tell if they are the real thing or not? And Why does everyone want to be added on to your site if they just want to push other silly sites on you? A friend shouldn't want to do that. Thats why I ask the person, if you want to be a real friends let me know ,if you just want to post what your pushing or selling let me know. And if they do let me know it is just a pushing -selling thing then I don't add them on.What about you?

I think besides the people they are probably real. As far as movie stars and such I'd be careful. They could make up crap too! I think the bands are usually real but only ONE page for them of course! If they say they are real then believe them. But the fans should say they are fans. I think I had myself believing I'd found Keanu Reeves page and he never added me back. Now I find him to be a very cute celeb so I guess it may or may not be him? But yeah you never know... So whats your myspace name? If you ever want to add me I'm under http://www.myspace.com/monkeywriter take care

Some are created by "fans". Sometimes it is easy to determine this from the "blurbs" they post about the band or celebrity (in third person terminology). Some are real. Like the crew of the show GhostHunters - they are real and sometimes have discussions with fans. I would think that some of them are also maintained by a PR firm (Publicity Rep), so that "fans" can be notified of upcoming events with the band, etc, via Bulletin announcements. Equals more money and recognition for the band in the long run - keeping them in the public eye so to speak.

I just have people I know as friends on myspace. I like the site and have enjoyed "decorating" it with music, videos, pictures and such. I also get to see what my kids are up to on it.

I think some are real and some are not. have you ever notice when you look up a star or artist name you notice that they pull up more than one page. I don't add everyone that wants to be my friend, I only add people that I know such as friends and family. I also hate the pusher and the spam on myspace.

I don't know how 'real' the celebrity pages are, but when it comes to the friend invites from spammers, I automatically delete them. You can usually tell as soon as you look at their page whether they are phishing or not. Any legitimate person will have a real page, without all that garbage. Spam is spam whether it's in your inbox or on myspace.

You are right in a way that every one has right toadd or reject anyone who wanted to be there on your site / page! No need to say that one has to be aware about so many things because mostly all are aware about and selecting their own choice! I mostly add person who areinterested and creator or arts means painter, poet etc. as well as My prime interest is healing I am healer and reiki master. I teach Reiki and Crystal therapy! That's why I add or become member of such interested persons! I hope you got me what i mean!

I have a page there because several "real life" people I know "nudged" me into having one. I barely ever use it, though-- those who know me well, also know that I have blogs elsewhere, and they can "find" me there, if they need to. MySpace seems to be filled with a LOT of posers and people who are just there to sell you some "program" they are part of. And there seem to be a lot of very insecure people there who are trying to boost their sense of self-worth by amassing lists of 1000's of "friends." Yeahright. Last time I checked in (last week) I had a whole slew of friend requests from people I had no idea who were... like you, I try to figure out WHY they were asking me. ESPECIALLY since I'm a 40-something man, and they were all college-age girls.... hmmmm.... can you say "For $19.95, you can see me on my web cam!" Cynic? Who, ME? Neverrrrr.... :-D

LOL Denmarkguy, Still laughing at your description toward the end of your post. It is rather pathetic what goes on over there. Don't let your head swell though, I'm a 39 yr old FEMALE and get "invites" from young girls, LOL!! Scratching chin now and pondering those odd Internet things that make a person go, "hmmmmmm???"

I would say there's a lot of band/artist pages that are the real deal. How much the actual artists get on there and read the stuff etc is another thing... some need PR people to do that for them if they're busy. There's a few actors ones that seem real, but only the lesser known actors I think, and there are most definitely a lot of fakes out there pretending to be Johnny Depp or something haha :D

Pretty much, most of the celebrities on myspace are fake. Some of them are actually real, and you can find links from their actual websites that say it's really their myspace. And some of the myspaces may be a bit cleaner or better managed if a celebrity or their assistant keeps it up. For example, Mike Nesmith [who was a member of the 60's band The Monkees] has a myspace, and also says it is him on his website. Just as well, some of the musical myspaces are real, because they can tell Tom [the creator of the site] that they're for real and to delete the other musical pages, which happens. Anyway, it's hard to tell nowadays, so best to just trust who you want and not who you don't! :)

You know... I never used to get friend invites from many people I did'nt know (online or off) but now... I'm getting them from everywhere! And they all have the same type of profile. I do the same thing... ask them if they're just wanting to sell me something. Sometimes people add strangers to get their friend count up. Which is sad. *shrugs* I always try to send a message to the person and tell them who I am, where I know them from... so they know I'm not just spamming them.

I do know that many many stars do have a myspace page and yes they are real..i have seen alot of interviews where they tell people to check out there myspace page..but im sure there are many fakes as well..and I never add someone i dont know,,or havent talked to for awhile first,,Ihad that same problem..and alot of times they arent real people adding u as a friend,,so i just suggest dont add anyone u dont know..that way spam stays away from you too:)

I just deny all the add requests that have no bearing to my interests. I think the same thing happens on MyLot. You just need to check out the page of the person who wants to be added and if you make a mistake you can always delete that person.

I know that my favorite band's myspace page is real, though they have manager's and people to take care of it since they tend to busy workaholic folks -- or at least Claudio (the singer) is. A friend of mine owns a band page there and he's real. Alot of bands usually have to have real sites, since they need to get their music out there and selling. I also know a few models who own myspace pages. But the major actors..I'd doubt it. Most of them spend time away fromthe public eye, it wouldn't make sense for them to make a myspace for themselves unless it was unviewable by a majority of people on the site. There's not one true way to be able to tell either..the joys of the internet, you know? Me, I'll add anyone. I don't get alot of add requests, and I don't frankly care about the website very much, 'cause it's sorta pointless..but meh.

Hi there. I know what you mean about the fake pages. I have looked up even less popular celebs and found that most of them had at least 10 sites. It's really hard to tell sometimes, you just have to check them out. Sometimes if they have a lot of candid photos (similar to what you'd have in your family album), I assume they are the real deal. But I'm sure that they could be fake sometimes too. Or if they have inside information on new movies they are doing or other things going on in their lives. It's really easy to spot some of the generic fake ones, but others seem so real it's hard to know. As far as the pusing-selling thing, I have never experiencd it. I saw a few other discussion which mentioned the same thing and was really surprised. I get generic invites once in awhile that look real, but then you read the heading and they are just trying to get you to join myspace singles. I only accept friends that I know or that just happened upon my page and want to chat.

You're right, you cannot really tell who's real and who's not. My rule became thus, not to go for the celebrity type, because of the high probability that they're either unreal or a representative. These celebrities are too busy themselves aren't they? :) Also I try to get what is beneficial in terms of linking sites, so I just get what I need. To be fair I have met some real friends in myspace and I guess it's up to you to make the most of it. :)
