I wouldn't recommend php if you're only new to setting up websites, it's not easy to learn a language like php with no programming experience either. I've used php for many websites I've set up, this is one here: http://leaveamessage.awardspace.com

php is a coding language like Javascript, XHTML and so on. It is fairly easy to learn and basically most of the Dynamic sites you see (including Mylot) are coded with PHP. There are many online resources that can teach you the language, the best one that i recommend you go to in order to learn it is www.tizag.com. Have fun!

mylot isn't written in PHP, look at URLs, there is .aspx extension. There is a lot of server-side languages. PHP, ASP, Perl, Ruby (with Ruby on Rails framework)

well if you're a beginner you have to learn html first but it's better if you study xhtml. Afterwards it's up to you if you want to study php.

Good to know that you want to create good website with php ( or any other). before running into php you have to be well versed with Html. That is very important in designing and makes work easier. http://php.net is good. www.w3schools.org is one of the best wbesites offering free tutorials for beginners as well as advanced users.
