My husband and I have decided to work a little bit more on our eating habits. For him, it is because he has hypertension. For me, it is because I have been gaining weight since I got a new job that is purely sedentary. I have been studying about the South Beach diet and have heard many positive reviews about it. I'm considering putting my husband and I on it for a while until we gain our ideal weight. I'm just curious if there are any on my lot who have tried this diet. Are there any success South Beach diet stories out here? or if you just have some knowledge about it feel free to contribute? I would love to hear from you.

I know a husband and wife team, friends of mine, who tried it together 2 years ago. They got all into it at first and quickly fizzled out. I'm sorry I don't know much else about it. I myself did weight watchers and had good luck with it, but the best of all was a FREE website called www.sparkpeople.com. I can barely believe it's free and keep waiting for the catch. It counts all your calories for you and gives you an eating plan that is more detailed to your likes and dislikes than anything I'v ever seen.

I'm a member of sparkpeople, too and I love that site. Unfortunately, I'm not a great follower of their diet plan because I sometimes find the food boring. Still it is a great tool and I would recommend it to others, too. Thanks for your response.

Thank you for the information about sparkpeople.com. This is one which I can try since it is for free. I am interested in the southbeach diet because of its success here in the Philippines but, I don't keep a credit nor debit card so I cannot avail of it.

I did try this diet and it worked, I did lose weight, but I have IBS and the foods just didn't work with my IBS. It was all the wrong foods and it just aggravated it. But the diet is good and the food is delicious. As with any diet, the hardest part for me is actually following the plan. If you follow it you will lose weight. Good luck.

Thanks for the positive endorsement of the South Beach diet. I'm curious. What is IBS and what kind of food aggravates it?

Two close friends of mine tried the South Beach Diet. One did it because he was diabetic, and the other did it because she was married to him, and wanted to support his eating habits. They have not had luck with this diet. They have been unhappy with the food and the physical feeling of weariness they get while participating. This is not to say it won't work. But Weight Watchers was recommended to me for people with weight problems and high blood pressure. I have PCOS and that can lead to diabetes if one is not careful. You don't have to go to meetings, and you can participate online. Oh, and one diet to avoid is Nutrisystem. Trust me, don't pay the money, it's not worth it.

I tried Weight Watchers before but I got tired of the counting. Furthermore, I keep missing the meetings. Anyway, thanks for the comment.

The soutbeach diet is very popular here in the Philippines. There are well known celebrities who were not slim before but, when they got into the southbeach diet, they really did get great well shaped bodies. They had to have exercises, too, but these are very easy to comply with as the exercises required are mostly running and walking. The kind which the treadmill can cater to. The one who had dramatically benefited from it is an actor who has a surename of Rivero. I forgot his firstname. I am very forgetful, sorry. He used to be huge, more than 200 kilograms I think and now he is down less than 70 kilograms (if my memory serves me right). There is a celebrity bf-gf who are Ryan Agoncillo and Judy-Ann Santos. The current shapes these three are in now will definitely convince everyone that the southbeach diet is very effective. The foods are good, too. There's meat, chicken, fish, vegetables and rice. You will like it. I hope you will share with me the secrets of southbeach diet when you get into the program. I am overweight, too. But I cannot enrol in the program because from where I am, I haven't heard of any office which can provide us the full information.

I didn't realize the South Beach diet has become very popular in the Philippines. I'm a filipino but I've moved to the States last 2002. You do not need to enroll into any program to do this, and with a little imagination on your part you can make the meals even in the Philippines. I would recommend the book if you can purchase it. If not, I will refer you to a free site, not the official website where you have to subcribe, for more information. The site is www.southbeach-diet-plan.com. Browse through it and you will find a wealth of information that can start you off without spending a cent on any program. Good luck.

When I was in the Philippines, a friend of mine tried the South Beach Diet and indeed lost weight because she coupled it with exercise (going to the gym) as well. The problem, she said, is that it's quite expensive to maintain in the sense that she's not preparing the food but gets them from a fancy restaurant that prepares the South Beach meals for customers. In my case, here in the U.S., I'm into Nutrisystem and I already lost 5 pounds in two weeks. It's not much because I don't exercise at all, so for me it's fine (at least there's some weight loss). My sister and my roommate already lost a lot of weight from Nutrisystem meals because they engage into sports, too. Good luck!

I'm not really into diets where I have to buy my food from a company. I prefer preparing my own food and South Beach seems to have pretty decent recipes. Anyway, congratulations on your weightloss with Nutrisystem. Thanks for sharing.

WOW! Now that is some news. Maybe if my husband and I do this right, we might have a similar story to tell... Thank you for your response.

I have never tried it but one person who I know was on it and lost between 70-80 lbs. I have thought about it. I have tried the Atkins diet and had some success.

I read about Atkins but it's too nutritionally unbalanced that I passed on it. Thanks for sharing.
