My cat is insane

I know that all cats are probably insane to one degree or another, but mine is unlike any cat I've ever known. She has to be in the bathroom with me if I'm taking a bath and she sits on the edge of the tub. Sometimes her tail hangs in the water and she doesn't seem to mind. She licks the water off my skin. I can cup my hand and fill it with bathwater and she'll lap it up. But she's weird about water. She won't drink it out of a bowl. She loves my bath water and she loves it out of the sink faucet, but she's just not interested in the water we keep for her in a bowl (we keep doing it for no reason). She'll sit by the sink and meow until we turn it on for her. She'll even drink out of the toilet but only while it's flushing. She doesn't like standing water.
Last night I was trying to sleep and she sat there licking my face like a dog. She frequently licks me as if she's giving me a bath.
Does anyone else's cat do these things?

hahaha oh what a funny cat ! I rarely see my cat drinks either out of the bowl I mean, but if I noticed that she doesn't I would make her drink because she has to drink water every day it's not good to eat grains without drinking water. she also likes sleeping in the bath tub when it's dry and watch me when I take a bath but she doesn't really jump in or licks water off my skin.

I wish mine would drink out of her bowl because I worry she's not getting enough! I try to turn on the faucet for her several times a day. I guess if she gets thirsty enough, she'll probably go ahead and drink what's there.
Thanks for your reply!

I'd never call animal control because my cat likes to drink running water! I was kidding about her being insane. She's just got a unique personality. She doesn't need a doctor either. I was just talking about her idiosyncracies. Thanks for the comment though...

Sounds like you have quite the cute little companion! I have two kitties myself and one of them (Brock, the male) enjoys sitting on the ledge of the bathtub and licking the wetness off of my arms. He's even fallen in a couple of times but this doesn't stop him from hopping back up again the very next night. I've never had a problem with either of my cats drinking from the toilet bowl, but when they were kittens they enjoyed sitting in the sink and catching the water from the tap. I think it was more of a game than anything else, as they would still drink from their water dish normally as well. It sounds like your cat likes the motion of the water and that's why she drinks it (judging by your comment about drinking the water from the toilet only when it flushes). It's too bad you couldn't get her a little kitty fountain. I found a website that you may be interested in looking at, it features cat fountains:

All of my cats do. But they all have their own little quirks that make them individual. Meeca and Dory love the sink and love drinking from your hand or the faucet. Meeca appreciates a nice tall glass of water and if you dont have it facing the right direction she will move it over. Nemo likes "binkies", the plastic rings off of milk cartons. Itty needs a drop of food put in her dish EVERY time you walk into the kitchen or she is not satisfied. Its a wonderful life to be a cat.

That's funny! And I agree that being a cat really must be the best. It must really be nice to have all that "authority" without any responsibility. ;)

I'm not sure how old mine is because she was an adult when I adopted her. Good luck if you choose to get another one!

Both of my cats do the same thing. It means that she is comfortable with you. My male cat only lays on my tummy when I am having my monthly which is extremely weird but I just take it as part of his personality. Cats are more in tune with their owners then some people believe. They instintivly know when to be where and how to act depending on how we look or smell. My female knows when I am doing my cross stitch and everytime I take it out she feels its important for her to lay on my floss and "help" me!!

I have cats that come in and have to be loved while we are sitting on the toilet. They like to come in while I'm in the shower but they stay clear of it. Just sit there and meow at us. I have one cat you can't pet when they are on the floor but if he's up on something you can. Cats have their own unique personalities and they all have their little quirks. Just how they are, just like humans :)

That is so funny! I wonder what's up with having to be on something to be petted. He's probaby got his reasons.

Hilarious! I only take showers, and mine stands right outside the shower until I come out. His latest thing to do is hop up on the computer desk and sit here beside me. He looks as if he is reading teh screen! He must be watching the letters as they move? He finally gets mesmerized and tired, then lays down and attempts to rest his head on my arm while I type!!! Crazy feline! I wonder if myLot hired him to report me if I break the rules of posting?!

I love how cats have such distinct personalities! My cat also likes to go in the bathroom. When I'm getting the shower ready, he jumps into the tub and plays with the water! Also, he doesn't really like to drink water out of his own bowl, but he always drinks it out of the dog's water bowl! He also lies to go on the sink and have someone turn the water on to just a trickle, and then he stares at it, dips his paws in it, and shakes his paws in the air!

Needing running water, I can understand, but why do all these cats want to drink out of the dogs' bowls? LOL

sounds like your cats really like you
mine are not that affectionate
as for sanity, some crazy person on the yahoo site just asked what do my slippers say about me? When my slippers start talking about me, I will know for sure I am crazy.
Maybe my slippers should shut up.

I think all our cats have silly quirks! I have 2 cats and each one does his/her own funny stuff. Bob will only drink out of the toilet. He waits for me at the window, when he sees my car pulling up he runs to the back door to greet me... of course that's all about food. Becky is a hoot. She's one of those cats that lies on her back all sprawled out and totally relaxed. They like to lay together cuddling and grooming one another... so cute!

LOL, they're so transparent about "loving" you when they're hungry.

Cats all have their own weird quirks. My son's cat is like that with the bath.
But thankfully, mine has settled down, she used to get into everything.
The only really weird thing she did lately was stealing the bar of soap out of the tub and was eating it. Yuck!
She also used to nurse off my dog when she was a kitten, and then she would suck on my blanket when I was trying to sleep. That drove me batty!
When we were moving here, I had her in a cat carrier, and she escaped into the car! It's no fun trying to get a cat contained while in a moving vehicle! I had to pull over before I got in an accident because of the cat. I also had two of my dogs in the car, and they just laid there and looked at me, like, HUH? What's up, Mom?

Ew! Soap? That's amazing. Bet she threw it up too! Sometimes it seems like cats eat things just for the pleasure of throwing them up.

Haha, actually, that's just like my DOG! He has the same water issue. He drinks all the other water in the house, but NOT the water in his own bowl. What we ended up having to do was closing him off of any other water, and putting other bowls of water around the house, so that he would get used to his own water. Of course, if your bathroom door is open, surely she will continue to drink you, lol. Anyway, I think it's cute! :)

Your cat is a funny one. I think she just wants to be near you. Licking you might be a sign of affection. My cat doesn't drink out of her water bowl either but she will drink out of the dog's water bowl. That seems odd to me.

I like to think it's a sign of affection. :)
That's odd how your cat wants water out of the dog's bowl. They're funny creatures.

My feline friend had a habit of sneaking into the bathroom, jumping into the empty bath, and racing around and around, at full speed, sprinting, like a little furry slot car. It was a sight to see.
She'd also come in when anyone was in there, on principle, and was pretty hard to stop. I remember seeing a paw come through the part open door, and she pushed the door all the way back, with one paw! She literally threw it open.
Maybe there's some cat law that says "Never allow humans into bathrooms on their own."

My cat Ty-Ty is crazy like that too!
Whenever I'm taking a shower, he walks back and forth on the tub's "lip" inbetween the shower curtains. And, he even jumps into the shower with me, while the water is running!
And, on top of that, he is addicted to Q-tips! He cries and cries until he gets one, flips it around with his paws and rips off all of the cotton. Five minutes later, he cries for another one.
