I sometimes hear myself thinking something really stupid.

This happens when I am doing something else and my brain is running on auto pilot. Once I was not really watching a TV program about a farmer in Canada. He was calling out commands to his large work horse in French.
I thought, "How can he expect a *horse* to understand French?" Then I heard myself think that and realized how stupid it was. Of course the horse speaks French as well as any other language.
Maybe you actually hear yourself saying things out loud that you can't believe you just said. I would love to hear some of them and maybe I wouldn't feel so bad.

I can't remember anything, but I've said some things which weren't exactly "smart", several times... smart in the sense that maybe I should've kept my mouth shut ;)
Sometimes, saying the right thing is the supidest thing you can do!
Why should the horse speak french, again?

What I thought was that he expects a horse to understand him when I don't even speak French. But a horse or dog will learn words in whatever language we throw at them. We are the ones who have trouble learning their language.
I don't think they actually *speak* French, just listen in it. ;) Unless they are Monsieur Ed, then they say, pardon my French!

No, I feel stupid for assuming you would be familiar with the 1960's sitcom icon Mr Ed, the talking horse. (A horse is a horse, of course, of course.)I sometimes forget that you are from a different country and generation and you are not really a small black duck.
The farmer was plowing, and those horses learn words for left, right, stop, go, and back up. They would know other useful phrases too. I knew two dogs who learned the word "bath" and would try to hide.
But here is an example of the type of comment I'm looking for. My mother was looking at tomatoes in the store and the sign said "home grown." She scoffed at that and said, "They are not any more home grown than I am." pause..pause.."Oh. Well, I guess I am home grown after all."

Don't feel THAT stupid, I know who/what Mr.Ed was, though I never actually watched an episode :)
I've watched Green Acres, didn't they have a talking pig? Hmm...
I know sleigh dogs also learn commands for left, right, etc. Not sure about horses, but I guess anything is possible!
I'm trying to think of similar remarks, but my memory isn't cooperating :|
Pretty sure I've said plenty of silly things in my day!
