"until death do us part"...does this phrase have in meaning..in real life??

many of us during our marriages say these lines...do u think they realy mean n say it...cos most of them split eventually...after a few years or even months...
so wat does this phrase has to do with marriage??

I think the lines are said because they are part of the marriage vows. They might mean something when they are said but as soon as something better comes along they seem to forget. I don't think that phrase has anything to do with marriage now but it has always been tradition to repeat those vows.
