Plagiarism is the unauthorized use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work. Unlike cases of forgery, in which the authenticity of the writing, document, or some other kind of object, itself is in question, plagiarism is concerned with the issue of false attribution.
Here is a perfect example of plagiarism. I found it on my one of my discussion. As I was reading...I noticed that this member's comment sounds soooo familiar. So I browsed and checked all the comments and...finally I got it!!! Somehow the cheater tried to paraphrase the original content but I guess he ran out of words...
Asylum posted originally...
I always purchase ready filled cartridges for my printer, although I do use compatable cartridges rather than pay the extortionate prices for branded inks. The idea of refilling the cartridges has never appealed to me, and I have this picture in my mind of ink all over the place if I try it. The cost of compatable cartridges makes it quite cheap to run my printer, so there is really no need for me to use anything else.

I hate it when people cheat and tries to earn the credit. I feel sorry for the other member who got cheated.

I just saw a response that was so obviously plagiarized that I posted a link to the original work.
Then the discussion started tagged that one as the best reply.
I guess it pays to cheat and steal. :(

Be careful doing this. Although I completely understand wanting to bring it to the attention of users, I'd suggest using the abuse link of the post to advise mylot and then give it a negative rating. This may seem odd but as I posted in my response below this user can destroy your rating by going through your discussions and giving them a negative rating. It is what happened to me.

It is unfortunate that more is not done to stop those who abuse this system. I too feel that proper credit should be given when you take an article from another source.
I have a passion for finding plagiarized articles on mylot. I had a "friend" (now deleted) who finally hit the 500 mark and whose command of the English language, although adequate, was barely readable. Suddenly he was posting very well written and grammatically perfect articles. He was plagiarizing and not giving credit nor even adding content. I brought this to his attention however he completely denied it. I brought it to the attention of mylot.
What followed was something that I had not even considered. This deleted friend went through my existing discussion and rated them all negatively. That took my rating from a 9 when I hit 100 to a 3 within hours. I advised mylot and was told they had emailed him to stop. But my rating has suffered drastically and he continue to plagiarize. It has certainly turned me off mylot and I've searched out for discussions such as this to bring it to the attention of those interested.
If you have any empathy for my situation please rate my response and help me to get back to a rating that accurately reflects my discussions and responses.

Awww...I'm really sorry for what happened. It's very difficult for us to show concern here because they might get back on us. Don't worry...I can be your friend and I'll rate your discussions too.

Wow, you are really eagle eyed. I think most people woudn't really bother to study the words used that closely. But thanks for highlighting these to the community. It makes us more aware of these cases.
