So, I was reading the news online, which is something I do daily, and I found myself appalled at this one article. It was about the ruling that just was handed down against the woman appealing for the right to use ‘medical marijuana’ in the state of California. Though it is legal to use for medical purposes in California, a federal law was enacted and now takes prevalence over the California decision. According to the article, the woman in question, Angel Raich, suffers from a brain tumor, scoliosis, and other medical conditions, all which hinder her appetite and cause extreme chronic nausea. She has lived like this for over 2 years. After trying many other regimens of drug therapies to encourage appetite, it was found that the use of medical marijuana was the only treatment that worked for this woman. It helped the appetite as well as alleviated the pain she is subjected to live with daily. You can read the article here: http://www.cnn.com/2007/LAW/03/14/med.marijuana.ap/index.html I am bit confused by our society, that we can be more humane to animals that are ailing, but we can’t allow our sick to utilize treatments that work for them. I don’t get it, she’s not some street junky seeking a fix, she’s a sickly woman who is under the medical care of a Doctor who monitors her health and wellness and has prescribed a treatment that works. We don’t allow our sick and terminal to have rights to assisted euthanasia, and now we don’t allow them to legal have treatments that work—where’s the humanity in that? I don’t even consider this a matter of civil rights and liberties, but a human rights issue. What’s your take and position on this subject? Should the federal courts be allowed to meddle in your medical treatment, especially if the treatment is working and you are under the constant monitoring of a doctor? Or, should you have to suffer in pain and be subjected to a diminished quality of life while we are ailing? How do you feel about doctors prescribing medical marijuana as a treatment?

If it keeps her out of pain and she can eat what the heck is wrong with that . and as you say calif. is a marajuan state for MEdical purposes . Nevada isnt but when my hubby was losing so much wieght with his cancer Doc perscribes marajuana pills for him but he went the other way he was less hungry so had to stop them and we paid thru the nose for them pills for they arent on the list where we get them for copay cost(hubby went from 155 to 120 pounds in 2 weeks) But I do think it should be allowed to be perscribed for pateince like this woman

It amazes me that we can't be more humane to our sick and ailing, and allow medical doctors to prescribe and treat their patients in the best and adequate way for that individual patient. I think that is a big problem too, what works for one may not work for another. So, the question becomes: do we only use treatments that some respond to for all?
