There are sets of moral standards which usually came from the Holy Bible. If a person follows these, then he is moral. If he does not follow, then he is immoral. Or, man is not like animals which do not follow any norm of conduct or any ethics.

Philosophical concept of moral is different and what life has promited is also different kind of morality!
Though is on changing wheel now and people are asking question that where is morality? And you have asked here what makes man moral?
ok, what do you count when it comes to do something with right perspective? What are the things you want to do easily?? And what is leading you for life with a safe and secure feeling?
Just think and you wil find that what are the things make you moral based and so such a thing and process makes man moral!!

1. Religion(core principles which are mostly common truth, loyalty, care, love etc etc) and Human Rights Awareness
2. Childhood Environment
3. Self-discovery
4. Consciousness
5. Willpower because if you see many things wrong around you, you will want to indulge in it but willpower helps you refrain from it.
I hope I have understood your question correctly.

I wrote an article on the definition of morality, it touches on the religious aspect but really I view morality as independent from religion.

I think man's morals are a combination of basic instincts, and what they see and hear from their friends and family, along with their life experiences. We are all a product of what we have been exposed to and how we have been taught to react.
