Do you READ the manual or JUNK it?

Yippie, my phone has finally been delivered! I am charging the battery while doing a bit of responding at myLot. I am so excited that I am not apologetic at all when I say that I am going to take some time off myLot to play with my new phone. Don't get mad at me, alright? :P
But hang on, don't surf away just yet. I do have a question for you with this post as well. With any new gadget comes a user manual. Do you read it or junk it? I know many people in both categories. Some would zoom in straight to the product and try to figure things out themselves. Others would not even start without first reading from the first page to the last.
I would say I have one leg in both categories. I would do both simultaneously - well, not literally of course! I would play around, flip a few pages, play around some more, and so on.
So which category do you belong to? - And I am not only talking about phones. As long as you have bought/borrowed/stolen a piece of equipment that comes with a user manual, you are invited to air your views. It may be a TV, radio, oven, washing machine, computer, dryer... anything!
Do share your thoughts! ;-)

I am too impatient with the manual. I will start playing with the toy first and then refer to the manual only when I am stuck. When I am bored with the toy, I will then take out the manual to look for new things which I might have missed.
Happy playing with your new toy...
Just a Gentle Reminder :
Don't spoilt it.
Don't forget to respond to my discussions. LOL.

I don't junk it but I don't read it unless I need to know how to set up something, usually my son is very good at sorting these kinds of things out and I do not have to do it.

I think I am in between of the two categories, just like you I'll browse the manual for few minutes, take a look into diagram and parts and usage and flip to another page then go and try that thing,it maybe a gadget or an appliance at home. If I have time though I take time to read more about it but long after I have started to used that thing. Enjoy your new phone!

Humph...you're envying me! How much did you got that anyway? I am very lazy reading those manual. I will try to figure out things my way. If I can't understand a certain feature, than I read the manual. For me, most of the appliances are the same. Unless there's a new thing added, I will just use my common sense.

When it comes to cell phones, I try to figure things out by myself, (I enjoy playing around with it) and consult the manual whenever it´s necessary.
When it comes to washing machines, dryers and things like that, I always read the manual first before using them.
I keep all the manuals for everything, because you never know when you might need them. :-)

I actually keep the manual and put it on a shelf or in a file. I always have the intention that someday when I have the time I will go back and read it. It never happens... and years later when I get into a cleaning frenzy I find old manuals for items I no longer even have.

Why, you sound as if you feel obliged to read the manuals. :P

I usually end up junking it along with the packaging that it came in and always end up regretting it about a week later when I can't figure out how the item I purchased assembles, functions, etc. I really have to admit that I don't know what I'm doing half the time and just accept the help that is offered....LOL

I'm like you. I tend to try and figure things out on my own but on other things need the manual for more clarification. I tend to do this on all electronic gadgets. I do love playing with a new phone. They all seem to be different when it comes to programming them.
Have fun with your new toy and we'll see you back soon. :)

I dont junk it but yes i dont read it also unless and until it is required. Suppose i buy a new camera. So everyone now knows how to operate a camera and thus can get started with it as soon as it is opened from its pack. But now if i face any problem with it then i will have to see its manual for some instructions. So keep the manual as it can come handy anytime.

I usually scan over the manual but it really depends on what it is. Some things I want to read it just so I completely understand it and all it's options but other things I just don't care.

I guess I'm the type of person who does both. Problem with that though is that when I flipped through the manualthat I got with my computer I didn't understand most of it. I then had to go through the embarassing task of calling my 17 year old niece to set it up for me. That my friend is why I haven't figured out how to give myself a personalized avatar. (if you could give me any help it would be greatly appreciated) I'm sick of the little green guy.
My house phone I didn't bother, thought I knew enough not to use the manual, lost the manual and now have features I could use but can't figure out. I guess I thought I could outsmart a simple landline phone. Instead the phone pretty much outsmarted me. HA,HA!

I never thought that would ever see something like this posted here. OK, here it goes. Yeah, I would say that I have my legs in both categories that's just the way I am. I like trying to figure things out on my own especially when it's something that could be so simple to figure out. i mostly read the manual for options that I didn't think about having with a device, like a phone. Perhaps it's because we have this way about which starts when we were children with those building block in kindergarden trying to fix everything we get our tiny little hands on. Wanting to fix everything to our ways of connecting, fixing them so that it fits us. If i don't know a product that when I read the manual, there's nothing like it when it is mostly needed. At times it does get boring reading over everything you should know. Like when you open the product that could possibly shock the crap out of you, can be an illuminating experience haven't done this myself, the shocking part of course,.. but there's always tomorrow!

Usually I learn best by doing. So my first reaction is to play with it and see what I can do on my own. If I can't figure it out. I'll ask my sons to help. If they cant figure it and this is the last resort. I'll flip through the manual to find what part I can't figure out and read that. I don't like reading a huge manual its too time consuming. I just wanna play with my new gadget. lol

I always follow the steps in the manual and I never throw it away because you never know when you might need it again. And reading the manual can never hurt you. It should tell you something atleast. So why would you want to Junk a manual if you don't know when you might need it to look something up.

I don't want to boast but I don't need the manual. I can easyly understand and work new technology within an hour. It's like a computer, if I don't know how to do something I'll sit down do it, within the hour I'll have it down to a tee. Again I don't want to boast.
