i lived in China for a year when i was 16. I also have a half-brother who is living in China with his Chinese mother. So china has a special place for me. My mother hates it though because thats where my dad changed and their marriage fell apart. I think the Chinese culture is interesting, and changing like crazy. I remember being in a McDonalds and a song came on that was popular in the US lik 40 or 50 years ago. The (chinese) girl I was with was like ooo a new song! and thought it was by a chinese singer. I tried to tell her no that the song was actually really old, but she didnt believe me. I feel like the chinese people are suddenly being exposed to so much that they were cut off from for so long. Their technology is really advanced, they had awesome cell phones! lol. Economy wise they are advancing like crazy, I predict some impressive economic growth within the next 10 years. i actually lived in Shenzhen, one of the economic zones. It's quite the testiment to see a big city full of millions when 25 years ago it wasnt even there. It really shows the economic development. I dont know a whole lot about Chinese politics right now... Lol i used to know some Chinese but since i never use it anymore i've forgotten most of it!

This won't really answer your question, but my general impression is that China used to be closed to the outside world and now it is opening up to embrace the rest of the world. The next summer Olympics is coming to Beijing I think. Has China hosted the Olympics before? I watch cctv on the internet for figure skating coverage since China has the best pairs skaters in the world right now - Shen & Zhao, Zhang & Zhang, Pang & Tong. Awesome skaters. How famous are they in China? Their coach Bin Yao is awesome too.

I am a foreigner presently living in China. I have been to the south particularly Xiamen and Fuzhou and now I am in weihai-west of China. Well, China is as many people put it a sleeping giant. I guess, the giant has finally awoke and is now walking into the limelight. Yes,China is developing so fast. There are many great tourist and cultural attractions all over the country. The people are generally very friendly, fun loving and ahmmm traditional. Ops I have to include my experience in dealing with vendors/merchants, ahm most of them have the tendency to deceive you by overpricing the goods they are selling If you are a foreigner, it pays off to learn the art of bargaining! Many especially the old folks still adheres to superstitious beliefs/traditions. The culture is very rich. The food- awesome except that they contain too much MSG! Like in the country where I come from, bureaucracy is also present. I love learning the language but I have difficulty mastering the tones and the pronunciations. So Peakcoco,ni hao! where in China are you from?
