I have had my toaster oven for 20 years. It works just as good as the day I got it. No reason to throw it out. I've gone through several toasters in the time I have had my toaster oven.
My 14 year old studied it the other day and said, "No one has these anymore." Nope. Her friends' households do not have toaster ovens. How can they possibly go out of style? Microwave ovens cannot replace toaster ovens. I told her they were better than toasters and she asked why. Well they take thicker slices, larger pieces of food, and save electricity rather than putting something small (like one baking potato) in the larger oven.
Do you all have toaster ovens?

Yes I use mine all the time. I haven't used a toaster in over 2 years. Mine is on my counter and I use it to bake
small stuff so I don't have to heat up a huge oven. My son
is forever doing mini pizzas in it and we use it all the time. I never though of using it till I went to my sisters a couple of years ago and she has hers out and she said are you kidding I use it all the time. She will bake brownies in it, or a small roast. Whatever will fit. I have used my oven maybe a hand full of times. But I'm not sure when you say a
toaster oven from 20 years ago if you can bake in it?? But that's the kind I have and it is without a doubt the most used appliance in this house.

We have one and I love it! Like you wrote, it saves electricity! I'd rather put small items in the toaster oven instead of heating up the whole oven. I like to re-heat pizza in ours because I hate the taste of re-heated pizza that was in the microwave.

Oh yes! It is the most used (next to the coffee maker) appliance in my kitchen! I chop vegetables and roast them in mine (almost nightly), I fix french fries in mine, I use it for bagels, I make toast in it, I make muffins in it, I use it for everything! As you say, why fire up the huge oven when my little countertop toaster oven does a fine job! As my children grow and leave the nest, I am cooking for fewer and fewer, and it will eventually just be hubby and I! The third of four children leaaves for college this year, leaving behind only number four and hubby and I! No use heating up that huge oven for 3-4 cups of vegetables! I will never be without a toaster oven!

Oh yes!! I absolutely LOVE our toaster oven. We got it as a wedding present and I think we've used it more than any other appliance we got! It is definitely our favorite. I defintely agree with you that they are way better than toasters. You can toast a bagel so nicely in the toaster oven without having to cut it really thin, without getting it stuck in the toaster, etc, and you can cook all sorts of things in it. They are especially good for reheating french fries or pizza, because if you try to microwave them they get really soggy. Toaster ovens reheat them very well! We will certainly get another toaster oven if ours breaks, but if you've had yours for over 20 years, I guess that's a good sign! :)

I do! Wouldn't know what to do without it either! This past Christmas the whole family came to our house. The day before everyone started arriving, the microwave went out. The maintenance man couldn't get it fixed & had to order a new one but it didn't come in til the day after all my guests were gone. If I didn't have my toaster oven, I would still be eating Christmas leftovers. LOL

I used to have a huge toaster oven (big enough to cook a roast in!) but left it in Vancouver 12 years ago. I got a KitchenAid Krisp microwave (free with Z points!) when I moved back to Ontario, and it has a grill built in. I use it all the time.

I am young myself, and have never had a toaster oven. But I can tell you I want one! I would use it to make garlic bread and such-like you said, to save energy on turning on the big old oven. I am a housekeeper, and you would be surprised how many people still have one in use. LOL but if I brought it home my kids would not even know what it is I am sure. (Ages 7 and 4)

I actually use a toaster oven as a full fledged oven. I bought it when me and my other half were out at the neighborhood grocery store. They sell a lot of other things on top of groceries and I thought to myself why not see what they had to offer. They had some really expensive versions and then some more affordable ones. I was considering buying one to keep our energy costs down because using a normal oven I find seems to use up quite a lot of electricity. I finally found one that suited my budget and I decided it was time I just go ahead and buy it.
When we got it home we started to find some recipes that we had wanted to try for a long time. I find that the toaster oven opens up a whole bunch more of a variety for us in terms of meals that we can cook. I really like cooking with this appliance as it works just like a normal oven only smaller. It's not that hard to downsize a regular cookbook recipe so it fits into a toaster oven and I've been able to do that with a lot of success.
I've tried my hand at cooking a variety of different meals in this toaster oven. I've made all kinds of different foods in it and they all turned out really good. Cakes and cookies have also been a success for me in a toaster oven where I thought at first they would not turn out at all. The first batch of cookies I ever put in the toaster oven went a little weird but I believe it was due to the fact that I had never baked using one of these appliances before. So wasn't quite sure what temperate to cook them on & so forth..
I find that the versatility that a toaster oven offers allows me to keep everyone in te family excited as to what I am going to cook next using it. It's also made me more interested in the things I can cook in the toaster oven and as well it has pushed me to look for new and different meals I can make every week for me and my family to try out. As well, if we just want one of our good old favorites I've found ways to make those in the toaster oven so we never miss out on those dishes. All in all, it's the perfect little appliance for any household kitchen. It makes anything a normal sized oven can and sometimes in less time that it takes to cook in a conventional oven.
In conclusion, I find that using a toaster oven can help to benefit your home in a multitude of different ways. You can save energy by using less to cook your food and you can also save time because the toaster oven will sometimes cook a meal faster than a conventional oven. I also find that a toaster oven takes up way less space and consumes less energy than a normal oven does. It will be a long time until I ever use a conventional oven again. Unless I need it to cook something that needs to go in to an oven that I am unable to cook in an oven..
But for the most part I haven't found all to many items that I can't cook in my toaster oven.. A few things I have found though as they are to large to put in my toaster oven.. But I tend to cut these foods in half & I still end up finding a way to put them in my toaster oven. I truly do believe that toaster ovens are one of the best inventions out there that we're ever made! . .
Thanks for allowing me to share! xx

I use my toaster oven almost daily. I've been through at least a half a dozen toasters since being out on my own. This toaster oven I picked up used and I've had at least 3 years. No problems, works great and doesn't heat up the whole house if you're only cooking something small. My microwave on the other hand, basically serves as a place to store stuff on top of and occasionally I thaw something if I forgot to take dinner out early enough to thaw in the fridge.

yes I still have ours and it works great for making garlic bread or like you stated the thick slice bread and baking potatoes. I also use it for my ham and cheese melts I make on english muffins

I love my toaster oven! Mine is a convection oven, too, and it cooks faster than my regular oven and very nicely! I use my toaster oven daily. I hardly ever use my regular oven unless I'm cooking something big. It's great for leftovers. I agree the microwave makes things soggy, especially leftover pizza (UGH!). In fact, you just gave me a great gift idea - my elderly parents don't have a toaster oven and I think it would be perfect for them! Thanks! :D

I love my toaster oven. I use mine to bake in too. Pot pies, pizza, biscuits, etc. Anything that doesn't require the use of the larger oven goes into the toaster oven. Why heat up the house by using the regular oven when you only need to use the small one. I also broil fish in the toaster oven too.

I friend of the family gave me a toaster oven about 2 years
ago, I had never used one...so I put it on the shelf in the cabinet...didn't know what the heck I was going to do with it. My toaster broke, or should I say another one of my toasters broke...I didn't know what to do...I must have something toasted in the mornings. Then it came to me...why
not try out the toaster oven, instead of buying a new toaster...maybe I can save a few dollars. OMGosh, I was hooked. There are just so many benefits to using a toaster oven as opposed to 'the oven' and 'the toaster'. Easy cleanup, saves energy, great for cooking small items, wonderful for warming up leftovers and from what I have been reading, I have only begun to reap the rewards. I will never be without one again in my life. And what lesson did I learn from all this, 'a know it all,I am not'. My friend knew a lot more about me and my lifestyle than I thought, her present has become invaluable and I
can't thank her enough...SS

My parents have both a microwave and a toaster oven and use both. The toaster oven is the one that i had given to me and gave to them lol...
I have to agree, no one in the younger generation (i include myself with that lol) uses a toaster oven, its a thing that older folks use.

My boyfriend has a toaster oven and I just LOVE it. It's really a great thing to have when you want to make small batches of things. We use the toaster oven to cook small batches of biscuts, tater tots, warm up leftover pizza, for all sorts of things. It's great because it takes a shorter time to heat up and I'd like to think that it will use less energy because of that. It just seems like such a waste to heat up the whole large oven to warm up one peice of pizza.
If my boyfriend's toaster oven breaks down, I think that I would definately suggest that we get another one. I would get one myself if I had the counter space for it. I really think it's a pretty great little kitchen appliance. I would say that I use it a lot more than say, a blender. The funny thing is that a lot more people have blenders.

We still have a toaster oven, so we must be out of style, lol. I love it to reheat pizza, bagels, toast, I like my food to be crunchy! I prefer the toaster oven over the microwave any day. I've never liked the regular bread toasters!

This is funny I saw this, because I'm staying at my Uncle's house, and he too has one. I sort of find it funny, only because I grew up with a microwave. But I do like the toaster oven, and he's had it for just about as long as I've known him, at LEAST 19 years. They're pretty good, I like them!
