Is it just me or do cats automatically gravitate to those who dislike them?

My husband is a cat person. I am a dog person. We have been over this many times in MyLot I know. What I want to know is have you ever noticed that cats will hang all over a person who expresses dislike or has an allergy? My husband's cats are constantly climbing on me while I sleep or watch TV. Yesterday one of them got right up in my face and kept meowing while I was watching TV. My dog is content to lie beside me and let me pat him while he sleeps and I do my thing. Why do the cats have to stick to me worse than velcro?

lol, this is too funny. First off the feline speicies is very pompus. They think everyone likes them and can't fathom anyone NOT liking them. And they just have a knack for annoying people.

I hate cats. We are house sitting for friends for 3 months while they are in Holland and they have two cats and would you believe it, out of all my family who don't mind cats they make a beeline for me and want to rub up against my leg. :S

LOL! Your post made me smile because I've always sworn that this is true and no one believes me. I'm severely allergic to cats and, no matter how many times we go to my sister's house, her two cats will gravitate to me every time! I'll be sitting at the table and they will jump into my lap from under there. One time, my sister told me to try out their new recliner and the younger cat jumped right up onto my chest as I was leaned back and stared me in the face LOL I swear they are looking at me and thinking, "Neener neener neener... you can't touch me..."

That's what one of hubby's cats do to me. I lie down alot because of my sore back and the cat gets on me and taunts me because I can't move fast to make her get off. After a while staring in my face she turns around and puts her tail in my face with her personal area very close to my face while her tail wags. I usually yell to make her get off and hubby comes and takes her off me.

Cats are known to gravitate toward earth lines and often sit or sleep on them. I feel them as suckers and invaders of space myself, but I am sensitive too. They like your energy which you could take as a compliment! Have you noticed they crawl around legs, never seem to get enough of it. For me cat's get too far into my energy and I find it offensive. Some people love it, that's kewl!
You can retrain a cat, same as a dog to stop doing it. Change your body language toward the cat, put a NO in between you and the cat. They will soon learn to stop. You don't have to be too aggressive, just assertive.

Yes I have noticed this. Btw dogs do it too! *L* My dog loves all, and not all love her. I think animals are loving and they want to be loved (Dogs at least). But my cat does come towards those who dont like her. It makes me laugh. Maybe they are sensing the fear or hurt or whatever and want that person to like them still.

I read this and started laughing. I've noticed this s well. They always seem to do that. I have a friend who's allergic and the cats are all over her. Back years ago we had a friend who didn't like cats. He'd sit down and the cat was in his lap. Never failed. I think they want to make sure the person has one more chance to change their mind. That or they like to irritate them. Not sure which but cats do seem to go to those who don't like them.

I think they do it intentionally to annoy the people that don't like them. My last cat seemed to have an evil expression on his face when I had company that didn't like him and the more they tried to ignore him the more he rubbed against them. I swear when they got up to leave he would twist himself around their legs hoping to trip them up.

I SWEAR animals have a sixth sense about this. I am allergic to cats, and my husbands cat tries to sleep on my head!! My dogs always get up in peoples faces who don't like dogs. SO much so, that they will corner my mom. It's ridiculous! But I find it humorous.

Hubby's cats also like to sleep on my face and I often wake up with sore eyes or runny stuffy nose. That is uncalled for. My dog would not do such a thing to hubby. Also I have seen the cats draw blood even on hubby. Dog does not do this to anyone. He can act fierce but I have never seen him actually attack anything.

Yes, I know what you mean. My one cat will always go by someone who doesn't like cats. The other two are just to scared to come out when anyone is around. But this one cat is the more aggressive one and will come out go right up to the person that least likes cats. I guess she just knows and somehow wants them to like her.

I'm not sure, but our therapist seems to think so. She is not a cat person, however every time she comes over, our cat comes out of hiding and comes up to her and rubs all over her. Maybe cats can sense it, and they are trying to convert them? Who really knows?

Definitely! I have heard that many times, and although I am a cat person more than a dog, I do have the same problem with dogs. I think its a general animal thing.. they can sense this!

I think animals can tell who likes and dislikes them. I think though that for cats, they would probably want to annoy that person intentionally because they are pretty cunning, or some cats that I've seen, are very close to their owners and people around them and they would think that other people would love them as much and would call for some affection.
Dogs I think are more likely to go towards the person who dislikes them because they want affection from everyone (unless if they also dislike that person too). My dog loves to sticks himself to my dad whenever he gets the chance to, even though he knows that my dad can get annoyed with him sticking to my dad everywehere, sometimes even when my dad is sleeping!

I know what you mean, cats do have a tendancy to go for the people who dislike them, and it just seems to happen with no reason. I can only speculate as to why, but I believe they just want to be loved and fussed, my own cat always goes straight to my best friend and he doesn't like cats much at all
