Ohio has become the 15th state in the USA to pass a smoke free law. If you have never heard of it, it is a law that makes all restaurants and bars a smoke free zone. Many thought that less people would eat out but I have noticed more eating out since the law was passed.
Even my family has been eating out more. I like being able to go out and not smell all that smoke and inhale it. What do you think? Do you think this law could be passed in more states or around the world? Would you vote for it?

I am in Ohio as well and I voted for it. I was very pleased to see it passed. However, they have yet to start enforcing it. I have noticed several public places where people are able to smoke and it drives me nuts. We passed this law so this would not happen, yet it still is. My wife has real bad allergies and asthma so the smoke causes her to choke.
I hope the put this law into effect soon....

Public places as in some bars? I heard there is a loop hole in it. Something about clubs and paying $$$. If it isn't a bar, then you should say something or report it. They are breaking the law.

I haven't encountered that. All the places that I have been, it's been better. I still see a stray smoker but not near the doors.

Here in Indiana it goes by the city so far, and primarily affects restaurants. Since the city we live in passed it, we have definately gone out to eat more. Especially since the baby came. I wouldnt drag him into a smoke filled restaurant for anything, so it is nice to go out and not come home smelling like smoke. The only thing that bummed me out about it is, I love wings at BW3 (Buffalo Wild Wings), and our local one voted to classify themselves as a bar and make it 21 and over so they could keep the smoking. If I am out by myself with my son and want to pick up takeout, I cant even do that anymore because I cant bring him in the front door to the desk. But back to your original question, I did and would definately again vote for it.

Definitely. I think it's a great idea. We should all vote for it and that it should be extended everywhere.
It has already been implemented where I come from. And like you I have been enjoying the cleaner smoke free air in the restaurants without having to choke. It helps me a lot because I tend to have difficulty breathing when the air is polluted. So that's why I have been eating out more often, which is good news for restaurants too.
Congrats on breathing fresher air from now onwards.

I am not a smoker--I have asthma and allergies--so anywhere there is uncontrolled ciggarett smoke, I tend to stay away from. Two of my three children also have asthma and I don't like them being around it either. My husband is a smoker however he doesn't smoke in the house (outside only) and even when we are out in an open area (like for a picnic or something) if he is close by me or the kids, he will ask if I am ok for him to light one. Not all smokers are that polite and thoughtful. I absolutely HATE going into resteraunts and such where their smoking area is still basically part of the main resteraunt. Its not blocked off by complete walls if blocked at all. I live in WV and shop in VA quite a bit and most places around here are going to no-smoking facilities. Its not a law yet but I am hoping it will be. I am not against smoking, really I am not. One is free to smoke if they are of age. However when someone else's ciggarett smoke affects me or my children, THEN I have a problem. I don't beleive that I should have to avoid going places simply because there is a smoking area or people smoke openly without respect to others. And yes, I would vote for a law such as this. Yay for Ohio!

Maybe they will do something else about it. I know it is either WV or Virginia that is a tobaco growing state. I don't know if they would pass a no smoking law there. It would be something though. Thanks for adding. You always have such great info. YOu got a +.

You got a + for that. I don't know of many smoker's that would agree. I know having to go so many feet from a business is hard. This weather has not been nice.

That's good news! Congratulations to Ohio! I am not from Ohio, but how I wish that there would also be a smoke free law here in our country. Unfortunately, there are only few areas or zones wherein smoking is prohibited. I would definitely go for a smoke-free world!

Sorry above comment was a mistake. I would certainly vote for it. I hate smokers. I mean people say you should hate smoking and not smokers. Why not? They don't care about themselves but they are also harming other people's health. Pollution is on rise and other mother nature is getting sick which is so bad.

congratulations to Ohio. I vote by not patronizing places which allow smoking. I figure voting with my billfold is a pretty good way. I can not stand, any longer, a smoking establishment. I used to go all the time, but now, I come a way with a headache and my alergies really kick in.

I used to have the same thing happen. I used to smoke and now it really bothers me to smell it. Do you think if enough people stopped visiting a business it would make a difference?

It's good that your country is smoke-free because here in the Philippines there are still stablishments who are allowing people to smoke..But we dont have that law yet, it's just smoking in public places and on public vehicles are strictly prohibited. I want that law because it will give a good air on the place. But i dont think, smokers are not agree with that law because if they wanted to smoke after eating in a restaurant, how they can? But i like your law..

I think most smokers should be able to go 1/2 hour without one. Maybe some day they will change the laws there. Thanks for replying.

In Ohio where alot of business's have posted the no smoking but mostly it's not being enforced yet. The One-Stop (emplyment agency that used to be To file unemployment)still has the outside ashtray, I thought that wasn't allowed , but they did say it would take around six months to probably get the law together.Yes I think they should pass this in all states and I'm a "light" smoker. only a few in the evenings.

They must be enforcing the law by city. In my hometown, I have noticed a huge difference in where you can smoke. Maybe I need to get out more to see who is actually obeying the new law. Thanks for the reply.

When they told me I couldn't smoke in a restaurant we would go to another. As for a bar? that is a joke. Don't go to a bar if you don't want to be in a smoke filled environment. Why don't they make smoke free bars & have smokers bars. I WOULD NEVER SPEND A DIME IN A BAR WHERE I COULDN'T SMOKE.
I think they should make smoking illegal just like heroin. Smoking does no good for mankind. Illegal. I smoke so I don't want any complaints from smokers.

I don't like smokers. I used to smoke. I finally quit 6 years ago. It is a catch 22 for me. My Grandfather raised tabacco and earned enough to raise kids and keep the farm. If smoking was made illegal, what would happen to farmers like my Grandfather? Something needs to be done slowly. It took 100s of years for smoking to get this bad, it will take decades more to take back our future.

Also to answer your question. No I wouldn't vote to ban smoking in public places. But I would vote to make it illegal. Just like heroin.

It's not a big fact. Smoking is their wish and every one can smoke. I accept this law...
