How do you shake off sinful thoughts?

Sometimes, sinful thoughts insinuate between our ears like the devil's whisper. And how irresistible they often are, spreading inside us like petals of a dark flower. As much as we want to follow God's light, the more the shadow of sin trails and tricks us into falling headlong to hell. Even a saint like Augustine had a hard time veering away from temptations. I know these are always constant like death, but do you have any suggestions to make our prayers nearer to the road of redemption?

It basically requires willpower and how you get that willpower varies from person to person. some turn to god some to work. I am suffering from a diabolical temptation. and nothing seems to get it out of my mind. finally i have come to the conclusion only removing myself from the source of the temptation will cure me.

Sinful thoughts will always be ringing in our minds being expressions of our fallen nature. They will always be here until the final redemption and will continue to play tricks on our minds. What I do when it comes is I just talk to myself and say This is wrong, this is the devil's workings and I will not let this triumph over my mind.

sinful thoughts, delicious and irresistible! i wouldn't mind having them.. then. i thought that they were just part of my creative daydreams. but now, i strongly feel that they are indeed the devil's tools to make us stray from the road to redemption. for me, the best way to shake them off is to be prayerful. try to read the bible when you wake up and before sleeping. that way your first thought of the morning is God's wonderful words, that will hopefully stay in your mind as the day progresses. and the last thing you'll think of? still God's words, and hopefully they will insinuate into your subconscious' crevices.. and voila! sinful thoughts cannot enter anymore! or so i wish.. lol

Sinful thoughts come from a depressed or unhappy mind, going out of our home and breathing in fresh air, attending prayers and meditating is a very nice remedy for this. It is common, the thoughts we get reflect our mood and vice versa.
