Has anyone read "the Secret"? I would like to hear what you think about it. I've watched the dvd and found it interesting, as I had never heard about the law of attraction. I can't buy into all of that though.

A good friend of mine is totally obsessed with that book and dvd. I can tell you right now that it doesn't work like they say, and that the only Secret is the amount of money people put into things like that even though they don't work. The DVD is pretty convincing, as are the conventions put on by the author, but it just doesn't match up with reality. The author will tell people, "You're just not doing it right, you don't BELIEVE enough" but seriously the problem is that it just plain doesn't work despite their stories. I feel very strongly about this because I've watched my friend waste lots of time and money on this Secret only to be out lots of time and money and not gained anything in return.

I think the bad thing about the secret is that it blames people who are suffering from some misfortune, saying that they asked for it. It says that if you watch something bad on the news and you think how bad it is, you will only increase those sorts of bad events. For someone who truly believed in the secret, I suppose that would create a lot of guilt.

No, the Secret states that you should take responsibility for your life so you can change it. There's no blame needed.

Let me give you a quick beginner's guide to how this stuff works (and it does): At the deepest level we can see right now, all matter breaks down into the same small subatomic parts. Even at this level, you can see that everything in our world is interconnected energy, and that we are all a part of one big system. Now scientists began observing quantum particles and the way they reacted. In some experiments, they shot electrons which behaved like particles. Sometimes they acted like waves. (See What the Bleep for a cute, animated explanation). What they found is that subatomic matter behaves like a wave of possibility, until it is observed. When an observer enters the picture, this wave of possibility snaps into a real, local point. In other words, waves become particles, or all-possibility becomes one-thing-only. What determines which of all the possibilities that wave becomes when it solidifies under the eye of an observer? That observer's deepest expectations about life and the way things are. If you look out at the world expecting to see a dull, predictable, clockwork ratrace universe, that's what you'll see. If you look out expecting to see a magickal universe, that's what you'll see. You'll never bridge the gap unless you are willing to suspend your mental disbelief and give it a go... What you most deeply expect and believe is what you'll get, so for those who believe, they know that they are right because everything in their experience reflects it. Those who think this is ridiculous, know that they are right because everything in their experience reflects it... See the trick?

When I was about 5 years old, there was a kid's show that ran a drawing on tv. where all you had to do was send in a postcard with your name and address and if your postcard was picked, you would win all kinds of cool stuff. My mom helped me fill out the card and we mailed it. At that time, I truly believed that my postcard would be picked, because I had no concept of the odds against that happening. To me, it was the same as if you put in an order to the Sears Roebuck catalogue and then waited for your order to come in a few weeks. I told all of my friends about all the things which I would soon have, and invited them to come over and play at my house in a couple of weeks when the huge box of things would come. Of course, I waited, and nothing ever came, and I eventually forgot about it. My parents always told me that I could have anything I wanted, and I believed them also, but eventually reality set in. Now I'm wondering if there was someone else who had stronger thoughts or more focus, who's wishes canceled mine out?

A client of mine is currently reading the book and has said she would let me read it when she is finished. I would first like to read the book to see what it has to offer. I found the show that Oprah did with this featured quite interesting.

I have been doing this since i turned 14 and sometimes gives me a headach because i feel like i have the ability to ruin it if i do not go along with it correctly. You dont need the book to do this as i have been practicing it and getting better at it.

I have not read the book or seen the dvd. Howevever, I am a little sceptical. First of all, the title of the book is, The Secret. Everyone is trying sell a book today to make money. Naming a book, The Secret, makes people think there is some big secret out there that nobody knows but this person who wrote the book. I just don't believe that. This kind of marketing pays because are a lot of people who think--what if the secret to successful living is right in that book?! Why, it will change my entire life! I don't believe that. First of all, from what I am reading about it, it sounds to a certain extent, like common sense. If I think I cannot do it, I will not be able to do it. If I think I can I will be able to. Not so fast. Maybe you will be able to and maybe not. We all have physical, mental, and intellectual limitations. We cannot change EVERYTHING. Then there is the idea of, it is who you know, not what you know. When I was growing up, I was teased a lot in school. My mother said it would pass when I got out of school. However, those same kinds of people were in college, and in the working world. She also said if I worked hard that it would pay off. Everyone knows that that does not always work. I might have in 1960..but not in 2007. There are no secrets. There are principles to live by, but many things we are not in control of in this world.

The author of this book sure had a good marketing gimmick calling it the Secret. At least she must have made a lot of money. I think that anyone believing in this sort of thing is setting themselves up for a big dissapointment.

I think that what this means, too, is that if you expect someone to be the sort of person who will love and cherish you, that is what you will get. If you expect them to be the sort of person who will hurt and dissapoint you, then that is what they will be. I know a lot of people who always look for fault in others, who don;t trust other people, and they never meet anyone who they can accept 100%. I look for the good in people, and usually find it.

The law of attraction is simple, when you think you can't, then you can't but if you think you can then you can. But to achive it you have to know how to visualiza it.... http://www.secretroad.org

Total agree and that is the secret, you MUST visualize it, you have to picture what it is you are asking for, live the life you are asking for. eg. want the new home, then picture it have the design in your mind, furnish the home, walk around the home, visualize that you are living in this new home. Ask the universe and you will receive. I have read the book The Secret. I'm a bit skeptical about this book because, it tackled a lot about philosophy and religion. If it's more about science then I might believe in it thoroughly. But, I don't think the book is bad. It's a very good advice to think positive than to think negative. So wether it's true or not, let us think positive in everything we do.

I was always intrigued by the book and wanted to read it. At Christmas time, I saw it on a sales table for really cheap. I was so excited, I was finally going to buy and read it. I picked up and headed to the line up for the cash... while I waited I browsed through the pages and I got completely turned off. Not only did I not like the little bits and pieces I was reading but the page's designs didn't appeal to me at all LOL I put the book back on the table and walked away. After reading a few of your responses, I'm glad I didn't waste my money! Thanks for starting this thread even if it was a year ago :)
