Can you believe this guys, I can't even use the interenet anymore during working hours. I mean ok, it's normal, but if I get cought using the internet for non-business purposes, I will be fired.
My boss/employer started this new policy that if they see and catch one of us using the internet, they will fire on the spot. I mean is that a right policy, come on. I can't even post here anymore, I use to post and respond all day, now I can't do anything which is really bad. And I don't come in here like I use to because I am avoiding being fired. That's too bad for me and that is really not fair.

Wow, I feel so sorry for you. Imagine that! The people who are shelling out money for you to do work for them are actually expecting you to do that work? Just can't get any meaner than that.
Do you really expect anyone to feel sorry for you? Get real!

Nothing wrong with that rule. I think it's actually a good rule.
Nothing wrong with wanting to fire someone on the spot if caught on the Internet.
I mean you been warned and if you still continue to go on the Internet, then that is all on you.
I suggest stay off the Internet if you want to keep your job.
You are there to work, not play on the Internet.
Can't you use the Internet when you are off work? Why not use the Internet at home or at the library?

First off, no I don't use the Internet at work. My husband doesn't use the Internet at work either and he has access to the Internet. He could use it if he wanted, but doesn't.
There is a difference, his boss never said he couldn't.
Your boss said you couldn't use the Internet, he never said we couldn't. It's not our fault that your boss said that. But believe me, if my boss said not to use the Internet, then I wouldn't use it.
And by the way, when your boss said that you will get fired on the spot by using the Internet, well that was a warning. So go figure.

Well you put yourself in the shoes of an employer who is paying you salary for the official work and instead of that you are using the facilities you are earning your pocketmoney and company is suffering due to less work done. so what would you do. Naturally fire those who use their official time to do personal work. Be fair to your employers.

Yes it is to bad for you and it isn't really fair. It isn't fair to your employer that you are using company time and company equipment to surf the net. You are getting paid twice in a sence. You get paid by your boss and by Mylot. So do you give the company anything for using their stuff to moonlight? So stop reading this and get back to work, the boss is coming.

You need to be careful as they can install systems that can pick up that you have been on the net so they don't physically have to see you. Where I used to work you could not recieve personal emails and read them and one of our managers used to show us the funny emails he would get sent, only when it was quiet at weekends and only the odd one and he got sacked.

Yeah, my sister, where she works, they have a system like this. I think it's good because if you were told to stay off the Internet, then you should. It's your boss, he pays you to do what he wants you to do. But yeah, I wasn't going to say anything and was just going to let him figure that one out. LOL!

well i think that is quite obvious. every one wants full dedication from a person when he is working and i think using internet for personal purpose is a distraction for the person and that is a loss for the company. and so i think they are very much correct and i even support their decission and even i dnt use internet for my person la use when i am in my office and that also includes when i dnt have much work in the office and that is just because i want full dedication in my work.

That just doesn't seem fair. Was it interfering with peoples work. Maybe they don't want everyone on the internet all day long. But it sure does stink that you can't post anymore during the day.

I'm sorry but I dont understand this attitude that you seem to think that useing the internet is some kind of right or something. Your employer is absulutely right. He is paying you to work, not to play around on the computer. If your want to play around on the computer do it at home on your own computer on your own time.

I think this is really sick, man. By threatening to fire anyone on the spot if he is caught, why, he is not treating you as a human! What era are we in already? Where are our rights?

That's too bad, they shouldn't be that strict about it, some companies doesn't allow chat specifically because it takes a lot of time and attention but most don't care much as long as it doesn't interfere with work, I think they should judge each case separately, if someone is doing his/her job right then no harm in surfing the net in their free time..

Well employers should know that with the access of internet to its employees, they should know and consider that employees will use the internert during work hours. They should know that, or they should just turn off all internet access a company has which makes no sense.

I'm glad I met someone at mylot who's also using the internet in the office. lol :) Well, we also have that policy. I understand they have to do it because they just basically want their employees to be productive in their work. Plus, they also want us to be disciplined. Well, I guess we'll just have to be careful though. :)

ok this is very common now .especially in schools .most teachers are also requried not to do so. indeed, computer and the internet is really a wonderful world, but most people spend their time on it as well as few using it to work.
i have a experience . at that time i spent nearly 15 hours on it ,playing games chatting , news and so on .
and in the govnment they also have the same policy,.
