A long time ago I was sleeping on my sofa and my children were on the floor. It was the only room with A/C and it was a really hot night. I was woken up to a young man standing over me with a wooden pole. I sat up quickly and asked what do you want? He was smacking the pole on his hand and asking me where Jerry was. When I told him I didn't know a Jerry he seemed to get more aggitated and smacking that pole more. I slowly got up from the sofa and walked backwards towards the door trying to not wake my children. I told him to let me check to see if Jerry was in the bedroom. I knew my roommate was in there on the phone so I stuck my head in and asked if Jerry was in there. She looked at me odd and I shut the door. I did not want to alarm her because I was worried he would freak out. I walked to the door telling him I wasn't sure where Jerry was and I stepped out onto my porch. At that point he followed me out and quickly I turned backed and got into the house slamming and locking the door. My roommate came in at that point and I said call 911. She dialed the number and soon the police were there. They found the bottom of a broom laying in the yard so the pole he was holding was the wood part of a broom stick. Later that night they caught the guy after he beat up another person on the next block in their home. I had a lot of training on how to handle angry clients for my job and I guess the one thing they drilled into me that kicked in that night was never to let them in between you and the door. Of course when it was all over I burst into tears. The police told me it was a good thing I did what I did because it could of been me and my children that he beat up. What would you do if someone was in your home?

I congratulate you on your quick thinking. You should be very proud. I honestly don't know what I would do, and I doubt it would be anywhere close to as good as what you did. It would be very hard to wake up so suddenly and still be able to think clearly. I guess my hope is that in a similar situation, my dog would alert me, or possibly scare away an intruder. If not, then I'll call you for help. LOL Anyway, you did great, and we can all learn from your experience.

I think you handled a bad situation quite well. You got the guy outside the house and then locked the door and called the police. You did all this while remaining calm and using your head and your skills. I am glad you and your children are safe.
