Why do we tend to respond to discussions in the "no responses" category?

I respond to disscussions with no responses the most because I don't like when a discussion already has a million posts because then mine just gets lost.
Plus, if there are very few responses to a discussion you are more likely going to get the "best response" mark. Those often rise your star ratings and make you look good. Or you may even get paid a little extra for them.

A very good response. Thanks.....
It makes perfect sense when you put it that way. Actually, come to think of it, that is probably the subconscious reason that I do the same thing.
Here is a "best response" mark for you to add to your rising star........

I go to friends postings first, then interests, then 0 answers, then back to friends if I have the energy.

I always start in my friends discussion, then go to my interests, then top discussion. No responses is usually last, many of those questions have no responses for a good reason, the questions don't make sense. Not to say it is all of them, sometimes it is timing and good questions get missed.
But I admit, I have gotten fussier about my questions.

I respond to all discussions that I can relate to no matter where they come from. I get all of my friends discussions sent straight to my email inbox daily. I go through as many of those as I can each day and respond to them. I also respond to new member topics and i make my way around the site and respond to some open discussions, unanswered discussions or whatever I can find to reply to. I don't really have a certain topic or friend that I reply to. I just try to move around the site and contribute to as many people as I can each day. alot of topics, I have to pass up because I don't know how to respond to it or what to say to some of them. sometimes I have no knowledge of the subject it is about also.

Actually to be honest i very rarely respond to discussions in the "no responses" category, though often i feel guilty that i should becuase i know i'd hate for my own discussions to have no responses. Sometimes i feel a bit intimidated by the "hot topics" ones, as i feel that if a topic already has over 50 responses that there's nothing for me to add. I respond to a lot of my "friends" discussions, but moslt yi just wnader around the site looking for topics that interest me!

by the time I go through the emails of my friends, I don't feel like being on my lot anymore. I am kinda getting tired of being on it everyday. I can see why people take a break and then come back. It gets to be too much for me too.

I personally start with my mail notifications and to tell you frankly that gives me a lot of discussions to respond to in a day. When I'm done I go on to the hot topics. There was a time when I used to respond to only new discussions and no response discussions. But now I hardly go there, its only when I'm totally out of discussions.

When I first open mylot I check my earnings from the day before, then I tell my beloved (who pretends to be excited for my sake) then I go to my recent discussions to see if I can reply to any responses - then I check out my friends posts - 2-3 pages of their discussions usually. Then I go to new discussions for a few pages. Then I start all over again the next time I log in. I've been trying to devote some time crediting best responses every day too - but that is very time consuming on my slow connection.
I think it is a good idea to check out the no response discussions. It helps the original poster as well as ourselves. They could be very good topics just posted at the wrong hour or by a new person who placed them in general discussion so they quickly got buried on page 100.
