I have only two philosophies that I have followed throughout my last 55 years. When I was sixteen my step father taught me two things that would help me through life and he was so right.
First: Don't worry about those things that you have absolutely no control over.
Second: Never put obstacles in front of you that don't exist.
The first one is very simple and needs no explanation. However, the second is a little more involved. For example, if you want to do something or go somewhere don't put "ifs" in your thoughts. When something is important to you then make every effort to make it happen. Don't worry about the consequences as long as the effort is honest and moral. I remember my Mom refusing to visit me because she was afraid the airplane might crash or there would be a revolution or something just as pitiful. I told her that if she wanted to see me as bad as she said then what "might" happen shouldn't even be considered. I told her what my stepfather had told me and a month later I picked her up at the airport and we had a wonderful time together. Forget about the phrase "what if?". We can't tell the future and if we concentrate on the negative we will never accomplish our goals.
