Do you check your paycheck for mistakes?

Hi there. I work part-time, so I am paid by the hour, rather than salary. The number of hours I work from week to week vary, so the amount of my paycheck also varies considerably. One week, a friend of mine warned me that I should always check my paycheck to see that I was paid for the correct number of hours. She had been shorted by over $50! So, I started paying attention to my paycheck and within the first three pay periods, I found that two of my checks were inaccurate. Once I was shorted $70 due to a clerical error and the second time I was shorted about $40 due to a computer error. Because my hours vary so much from week to week, I probably wouldn't have caught the mistake if I hadn't been paying special attention. I realize that many of your paychecks are probably the same every time, so this would be unnecessary, but I just wanted to warn those of you who work part-time or irregular hours. People make mistakes all the time and computers have their errors as well, so you shouldn't rely on them to do things correctly all the time. Sometimes you need to take the responsibility into your own hands. Feel free to share your own experiences!

well I have one particular job in which I am paid by hours and I must confess that I am always there checking what they count or not...it is my job and I want to be sure they are clearly recognising my efforts..i think this is fair and I have no problems in admitting this...I think it is our right and duty to pay attention otherwise we cannot say they are cheater...we are entitled to keep our eyes open

Talking about checking on paychecks....ours was given today. When I checked mine, I was not paid for an 8 hour overtime plus 3 hours of night shift differential. What the heck! I hurriedly went to our accounting office and made the complain.

I always check my pay stub and I definitely say something if I don't think it's right. I had one payroll clerk get very nasty about it saying that SHE never made mistakes. Well, she did! And, it was corrected. I was very glad when she retired.

My God yes.. I tear mine open the minute i get them to peruse for mistakes. The worst was at the bank I used to work at.. over $100 went missing, and if I went by what I usually got paid, the paycheque would have seemed correct. I'd just worked more hours in that pay period and thought something didn't add up. Turns out they'd lost my timesheet and just averaged what I normally worked.
