The best place to meet single people

Right i've recently become single and just wondered if anyone had any tips on the best kind of place to find a prospective love interest! You hear all these stories of meeting people at the supermarket..but i'm pretty sure thats a myth as i only ever seem to run into old people or families with about 5 kids! i thought maybe going out to the pub was a good idea and then i realised i'm not that keen on men when they are drunk so that kinda spoils that idea...any ideas?
