How much to live in the Phillipines?

In USD (United States Dollars), how much does it cost (on average) to live in the Philippines?
Soon, my parents are going to move back to Philippines and live off my dad's retirement money from the military. So after college I would like to live near them, but not with them since I would like to be on my own. I want to know the average cost of living there. If anyone could give me an estimate, that would be great!

Hello..definetly your parents are gonna live a good retirement life in RP.Like any other countries cost of living here in RP depends on how luxurius your lifestyle but is definetly cheaper than the US.On the contrary on what our other friend said,yes our economy is not that stable but that only applies for people who's just starting there life...RP is a great place to have a vacation and retirement!! Life is very easy..I live in a middle class community,I can afford to hire a maid,but if I stay in the US,I would be the maid.Get my point!! =) That's hw easy life here is...

I don't know for sure, but I believe an american dollar will go much farther in the Philippines then at home.
I have talked to people from the Philippines and I get the impression that the economy me there is not so good and in fact people leave for other countries to find work.
So in a country with little money, the American dollar will go a long way.
