While the word rapture is not used in the Bible, it is described in detail in Thessalonians and mentioned elsewhere. I think rapture is a wonderful word to use for this event, describing not only the actual event but the emotions.
There has also been discussion here on the placing of the rapture in relation to the tribulation. I certainly believe in a pre-trib rapture, but I don't think any of us can be totally dogmatic on the timing of future events. I believe 1 Thess 5:9 means that believers will NOT go through the tribulation. "God has not appointed us to wrath" The Greek word here translated wrath is the same as that used when referring to the tribulation.
The thing we should be adamant about is that Jesus is coming. We can't know when it will happen. We should be ready. We should "persuade men"

PS Byfaithonly, I have never read the Left Behind books, so maybe I shouldn't comment, but it is important to remember that these are FICTION. The Bible is TRUTH. I know you know this, but we are all in danger at times of looking at other people and at other writings, rather than at the very truth of God's Word and at the Lord Jesus Christ, our ONLY true example. God bless.

To: cloudwatcher...I understand what you're saying about the Left Behind series being fiction writings but I really enjoyed them. They are biblically based and for people who can't seem to grasp the bible when they read it, it explains in real-life situation(s) so-to-speak on how things may go when that time comes.
It is best to go to the source itself and study, study, study; but I applaud the author of these books in helping people understand a bit more about the end times.

There are pre-trib beliefs, post-trib beliefs and people who believe it will be mid-tribulation.
One only need read the complete scripture to fully understand what Scripture says about how, when, who, what happens before, during and after.
It has nothing to do with the Left Behind series. Everyone should discern through Scripture and the annointing of the Holy Spirit what it is God is saying to them.
Everyone is going to have their own opinion. I just suggest you study the verses before, during and after to determine how and when you think it will be.
It plainly states what will happen before. Who will appear, who will witness, who will be decieved, how it will take place and who will survive. It also states what those who are 'taken up' will be doing afterwards.
It's very interesting.

I also believe in the "Rapture". Have for many a year and pray that we will be taken before the "Tribulation". Although I am a born-again Christian (have received Christ into my heart as my personal Saviour) I desperately need to start professing it more and living my life, again, the way He wants me to.

Rapute is real. Theologians tell of three rapture experience - pre-tribulation, mid-tribution and post-tribulation. the tribulation is for 3 1/2 years not 7 years. the antichrist will reign for seven years - the first half will be of pleasure and pleanty while the last half will the tribulation period.

I believe it and I believe we truly are living in the end days. The sign was the rebuilding of the temple in israel and it is underway now.

you say BEFORE others say AFTER and still others say this will happen DURING, the tribulations.
I do not know exactly what will happen or when it will happen - but I do pray that I will be prepared for the time I will be called upon - whether before, during, or after...
none of us knows the day or the hour
and any one of us could be called at any time - so we must get our affairs in order, that is - the affairs of our eternal soul.

Yes it would definitely be a wonderful time when the rapture will take place completely but indeed very sad that everyone will not be a part of it. Only the bride of Jesus Christ will be taken and rest of them would have to go through tribulation period. All th people who say are christians will not be a part of it, it will be God's selected one whose name is written in the book of Life.
And do you know for a fact that the rapture has already started. people thinks it will be just when Jesus comes and takes His bride.....no there is much more to it... God is waiting for the last elected to be saved and this mean time when the bride has to prepare it self to His coming like the wise virgins.
