what is life.

how do we define life? we can say life is complex set of chemical reactions. or feeling and emotions as life. or having a purpose is life. we are living being and we respond to our environments and surrounding. when threatened we retaliate or run i.e. we try to survive. if all this is life. so consider a realistic case........ say in 2150 A.D. we humans have created really intelligent robots which can think for themselves. theywill ceratinly also protect themselves when threatened. they will also have purpose(programmed). they may take their own decisions and differ from the orignal program. if they later take over some part of the world and figure out way to make more of them by factories etc. can i say that that can also be considered life. may be their intelligence may rise to a level that they may start have feelings. after all first life form "ameoba" and other micro organism did not have feelings. they just know only to survive. so why cant we call those robots a life form.........what do u guys think
