When you STAY at a HOTEL for PLEASURE do you BOOK at a HOTEL CHAIN?

Where do you Stay when you Go on Vacation?? - Vacation Hotels

When you go out for town for pleasure do you always book with the same hotel chain, enjoying the amenities that they provide you or the rewards or miles you gain for staying there or do you wait until you get there to find the best motel either for the money or the location?? We are getting ready to go on vacation in a few weeks to a local beach in our state, while we book reservations for hotels when we take the children, making sure we have nice accommodations for everyone concerned, but when it is just the two of us we prefer to get a nice (older) quaint cheap hotel, seems the cheaper ones have always been the best one when getting near the water, unsure why, but I can't wait to find one when we go, it actually gets to be kind of fun. What about you? what do you like to do?

We do not stay at a lot of hotels, but on our honeymoon, hubby and I took our chances, all the way around. I really liked one that was older, and almost was in a walled enclave, lots of shrubbery, etc, and way back from the road. We use those travel guides that have coupons. Now we frequently stay in KOA cabins when they are available, because they are more individual, and private, and the campsites often offer things that we like for recreation and rest.

Awww sounds wonderful, I know each time we have not made a reservation and found it on our own it has been the best one with such quaint and wonderful amenities. Thanks for responding

If I am on a tight itenerary and need to be at different places at certain during the trip, I book reservations. I usually book with the chain that I have coupons for. If I am only going to one place and it is a leisure time for me I wait and check out some of the local lodging, I may even stay at a bed and breakfast if I want to spurge. So I do a little of both.

The only 'out of town' trips we take is if we go up north the 50 miles to either my or my husbands parents house, or his grandmothers house. They all live within 20 miles of each other, and sometimes we will take a day trip or stay the weekend with one of them. We've never gone on a vacation or stayed in a hotel, anywhere. I would love to be able to go on vacation, but definitely would have to leave the kids with a grandparent! If we WERE to go on a vacation with a hotel and everything, I would probably want to plan all the arrangements out ahead of time, though. My husband has a nervous personality and would get really irritable if we had to spend time looking around for a place, worrying that we might not find something he would like.

My husband travels a lot for work, so he stays at a couple different chains, depending on the town he's in. So we do get reward points for a couple hotels. We use those points and stay places free all the time. In fact, hubby is going to Charlotte for the races over Memorial Day and he has a hotel for 3 nights and it's not costing him a penny!

Wow that is great, I keep the rewards and points system for the hotel chains we stay at also, but so many times when it is just the two of us the hotels we stay are Mom & Pop chains with only one hotel, but we always have such a good time, seems with the larger hotels is where we run into problems with the standard amenities.

Nope I don't always book the same hotel everytime. Usually when it's time to go on a holiday, I would browse all the available offers to see which is having the best deal and then decide which one to book with. Usually I will do some reading up before and book the hotel before leaving so that we already have the accommodation when we get there. I wouldn't want to risk getting stuck without accommodation in an unfamiliar place.

When i'm out on a vacation, I prefer to go around and pick for my hotel personally. I don't mind that, besides it's more fun thing to do. It's an adventure and one way of spicing up my vacation. There are special considerations though, when I know it's going to be a tedious trip then i book ahead.

My hubby does the booking all the time when we go on vacations so he chooses the hotels. Most of the time its cheap but good hotels. He also prefers if we get package deals as it works out better. We went to Colorado in January and we got a lovely package deal of hotel booking, car rental and two way flight tickets for only $480..it was awesome! The hotel was good enough for the two of us. On most trips hubby has chose the best but still gentle on our pockets.

Usually the only time I get to stay at a hotel is when I am working out of town. It has been awhile as I am on disability right now. In that case I always pick one that falls with in the companys guidelines but I can really enjoy. I look for a swimming pool, sauna, hot tub and fitness area. When we moved it was just myself and my husband travelling. The kids came later as they had to finsh school. We didn't make any resverations. We justed waited until we found one that suited our needs and was getting close to the time of night we wanted to stop.

I like to find the older quaint places when we arrive too. They are SO much better. They feel more homely, the food is excellent, and the service is usually outstanding! I really don't like staying at the hotel chains, because once you've seen one, you've seen them all. The food is either cold and rubbery, or nice but costs a fortune, because lord knows, you have to pay for your food on top of your accomodation costs! Give me an older quaint place any time.
